• Trump announced plans to make Ukraine repay $350 billion in U.S. aid, backed by natural resources like oil and gas.
  • Criticized Biden's administration for offering aid without securing guarantees, unlike Europe's loan-based contributions.
  • Future U.S. aid to Ukraine will prioritize stricter terms and resource-backed accountability.

Former President Donald Trump dropped a major announcement as he headed to Daytona Beach for the Daytona 500. Speaking briefly to reporters, Trump revealed a decisive move regarding U.S. financial aid to Ukraine, claiming the country would repay the estimated $350 billion sent by the United States.

Trump Pushes Ukraine for Financial Accountability

During a press Q&A, Trump criticized the Biden administration's handling of aid, stating, "The United States, under Biden, didn’t do loans. They just handed money." He highlighted that Europe has contributed around $100 billion to Ukraine, primarily in the form of loans, while the U.S. provided aid without similar guarantees. To rectify this, Trump said his administration is working to ensure repayment, stating, "We’re getting security on our money."

The security measures include leveraging Ukraine’s natural resources like oil, gas, and rare earth minerals to back the funds. Trump also detailed the efforts of his Secretary of Treasury, who is actively negotiating in Ukraine to finalize these agreements despite dangerous conditions.

Europe’s Role and U.S. Leadership

Trump emphasized the disparity between U.S. and European contributions, noting that Europe is geographically closer to the conflict and, therefore, more at risk. "We have an ocean in between. Europe has nothing in between. They have Ukraine in between," he explained, underscoring the necessity of Europe’s involvement.

The former president also accused the Biden administration of mismanagement, stating, "Every time somebody walked in from Ukraine, they just handed them money foolishly." Trump is now taking steps to ensure that any additional aid will be secured, unlike previous efforts.

What’s Next for U.S.-Ukraine Relations?

Despite these measures, Trump clarified that the U.S. will continue to send aid to Ukraine, but only under stricter terms. "We are, but we want it secured, and the money is going to be secured," he reiterated. This announcement marks a shift in how future aid packages may be structured, prioritizing accountability and resource-backed guarantees.
