  • With the success of Alien: Romulus and upcoming projects like Alien: Earth and Predator: Killer of Killers, a crossover seems increasingly likely.

The newly released Predator: Badlands trailer has ignited speculation among fans of the iconic sci-fi franchises, hinting at a possible crossover with the Alien universe. With a mix of Easter eggs and subtle nods to Weyland Yutani, the evil megacorp central to the Alien films, fans are buzzing about a potential Alien vs. Predator 3. But with no official confirmation yet, what can we make of these clues?

The Easter Eggs That Sparked the Buzz

The trailer for Predator: Badlands is packed with intriguing details. One standout moment shows Elle Fanning’s character seemingly "rebooting," her eyes flashing with the Weyland Yutani logo—a clear connection to the Alien franchise. This strongly suggests she may be a synthetic, much like the androids seen in the Alien films.

But that’s not all. Later in the trailer, the Weyland Yutani logo appears again on a damaged vehicle, further cementing the connection. Could this mean the corporation is playing a major role in Predator: Badlands? Fans believe this could be setting the stage for a full-blown crossover.

Adding to the speculation, a skull in the Predator’s trophy room bears an uncanny resemblance to an alien from Independence Day. While it’s likely just a fun reference, some fans are wondering if this signals a broader cinematic universe.

Hollywood’s Take: Directors Weigh In on AvP 3

Talk of a new Alien vs. Predator film isn’t new. Last year, Fede Alvarez, the director of Alien: Romulus, said he’d be open to the idea but only if he could team up with Dan Tratchenberg, the director of Predator: Badlands and the prequel Prey.

“Maybe it’s something I have to co-direct with my buddy Dan,” Alvarez told Deadline. “I think the best AvP would be the one where you don’t realize it’s AvP until the twist happens.” He explained that the surprise element could amplify the excitement, saying, “You think you’re watching a Predator movie, and then boom, a Xenomorph appears. Or vice versa.”

Even 20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell hinted at the possibility of a crossover, though he suggested it might take a different approach. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Asbell said, “If we do this, it’ll be organically created out of these two franchises… not just called Alien vs. Predator.”

Box Office Success Could Be the Key

One factor driving speculation is the success of Alien: Romulus, which earned $350 million globally. Its strong performance may pave the way for Alien: Romulus 2, currently in development. If the sequel proves just as successful, it could solidify plans for a crossover that fans have been waiting for.

What Fans Are Saying Online

Social media is buzzing with excitement. One Twitter user wrote, “If Predator: Badlands sets up Alien vs. Predator 3, I’m all in!” Meanwhile, Reddit threads are dissecting every frame of the trailer, with fans debating whether the Xenomorph could make a surprise appearance.

On YouTube, reaction videos to the trailer are going viral, with creators highlighting the Weyland Yutani Easter eggs and breaking down Alvarez’s and Asbell’s comments about a crossover.

What’s Next for Alien and Predator?

Even if Alien vs. Predator 3 isn’t around the corner, there’s plenty for fans to look forward to. FX’s Alien: Earth is set to premiere on Hulu soon, bringing the franchise to television. Additionally, an animated anthology titled Predator: Killer of Killers is scheduled for release in June.
