One of the prime suspects in Kim Kardashian's 2016 Paris robbery has died just days before standing trial, leaving unanswered questions about the infamous $10 million heist. Marceau Baum-Gertner, a 72-year-old career criminal linked to the crime, reportedly passed away on March 6 under mysterious circumstances.
The Heist That Shook Paris Fashion Week
In October 2016, Kim Kardashian was staying at the luxurious Hôtel de Pourtalès during Paris Fashion Week when armed robbers, disguised as police officers, stormed her suite. She was tied up, held at gunpoint, and robbed of more than $10 million in jewelry, including her iconic engagement ring from Kanye West. Kardashian later revealed on "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" that she feared for her life during the ordeal.
“They duct-taped my face and legs. I honestly thought, ‘This is it. They’re going to kill me,’” Kardashian tearfully recounted.
Trial Delayed by Suspect's Sudden Death
Baum-Gertner, nicknamed Nez Râpé (Rough Nose), was a key figure in the robbery, accused of helping to fence the stolen jewelry. According to sources speaking to The Daily Mail, he had been receiving death threats from gang affiliates as the trial drew closer, possibly over fears he would "name names." Despite this, he was reportedly eager to clear his name in court.
Other suspects, labeled “grandpa robbers” due to their advanced ages, include Didier “Blue Eyes” Dubreucq and François “Big Guy” Delaporte.
Kim Kardashian to Testify
Kardashian is scheduled to return to Paris in May to testify as the key witness. Her emotional testimony is expected to shed light on the traumatic events and provide closure on the six-year-old case.
What's Next?
With Baum-Gertner’s death, the trial may face further delays, but the remaining suspects are still expected to appear in court. The case continues to captivate public attention, blending celebrity drama, high-stakes theft, and lingering mysteries.
