A tragic incident unfolded in St. Paul, Minnesota, involving a 14-year-old boy, referred to as JC, who allegedly stabbed 19-year-old Jay'Mier K. Givens 22 times, resulting in his death. Law enforcement officials have charged JC with second-degree murder. A second teenager, 17-year-old Jeremy Joe Davila, faces charges for aiding and abetting second-degree murder. Authorities are working to understand the events leading to this devastating loss of life.
What Happened the Night of the Incident?
On March 31, around 11:30 p.m., St. Paul Police officers responded to reports of an unresponsive young man lying in the street. Paramedics transported Givens to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The autopsy revealed 22 stab wounds, including 18 in the back, two in the arm, and one each to the neck and hand. Investigations showed that Givens had planned to meet his friends, Davila and JC, before the incident occurred.
Key Evidence Links Suspects to the Crime
Detectives pieced together events using GPS data from Givens’ phone and surveillance footage. The evidence showed three individuals entering a wooded area, but only two were seen leaving. Investigators also obtained a search warrant for the suspects’ home, where they found two knives hidden in the basement rafters and clothing matching the surveillance footage. Witnesses reported unusual behavior at the home, such as covering windows with blankets after the incident.
Chilling Journal Entries and Confessions
After his arrest on May 1, JC admitted to the stabbing during questioning. Authorities also recovered JC’s notebook, where he described the events in disturbing detail. In his writings, he stated, “We dropped one,” and described how the victim struggled but ultimately could not escape. The entries gave insight into the emotional state of the suspect before and after the incident.
JC explained that he and Davila lured Givens by claiming they were in a stolen car. According to JC, the conflict stemmed from comments Givens made about his girlfriend’s child. Following the attack, the teens reportedly washed and hid the knives.
Upcoming Legal Proceedings
Both teens face serious charges. Prosecutors have indicated plans to move Davila’s case to adult court. The legal proceedings will determine the full extent of accountability and justice for the victim and his family. The initial hearing is set for June 3.
