Two women from the New Orleans area have been arrested for allegedly aiding inmates who escaped from the Orleans Parish jail, according to the Louisiana State Police.

Corvanntay Baptiste, 38, of Slidell, and Cortnie Harris, 32, of New Orleans, were taken into custody early Wednesday and charged with being accessories after the fact, a felony offense. The arrests are connected to the May 16 escape of 10 inmates who fled the jail by climbing through a hole behind a toilet in their cell block.

Harris is accused of transporting two escapees—who remain at large—to various locations in New Orleans and reportedly used a phone to stay in contact with one of them before the jailbreak, authorities said. Meanwhile, Baptiste allegedly contacted Corey Boyd, a 19-year-old inmate recaptured Tuesday night, and provided food while he was hiding.

If convicted, both women could face up to five years in prison, fines of up to $500, or both.

Jailbreak and Arrests

The jailbreak occurred in the early hours of May 16 when 10 inmates removed a toilet from the wall in their pod. As of Wednesday, five of the escapees—Boyd, Kendell Myles, Robert Moody, Gary Price, and Dkenan Dennis—have been apprehended. The remaining five—Antoine Massey, Lenton Vanburen, Jermaine Donald, Leo Tate, and Derrick Groves—are still at large.

Investigators have also arrested Sterling Williams, a jail maintenance worker, who allegedly cut off water to the inmates’ pod under coercion, enabling the escape. Williams faces charges of malfeasance and principal to simple escape.

Broader Implications

The escape highlights ongoing concerns about security measures and staff oversight at detention facilities. Authorities are urging the public to report sightings of the remaining escapees.
