DETROIT, MI (TDR) — Nissan is recalling over 480,000 vehicles across the U.S. and Canada due to engine defects potentially causing power loss while driving, according to a notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall impacts 443,899 vehicles in the U.S. and 37,837 in Canada, specifically certain 2019-2020 Altima, 2019-2022 Infiniti QX50, 2021-2024 Rogue, and 2022 Infiniti QX55 models equipped with 3-cylinder 1.5L or 4-cylinder 2.0L variable compression turbo engines.

"Engine bearings in the affected models may fail due to manufacturing defects, leading to engine failure over time," the NHTSA stated. Drivers may notice warning signs such as unusual engine noise, rough running, or malfunction indicator lights.

Free Repairs Offered

To address the issue, dealers will inspect the engine oil pan for metal debris and, if necessary, repair or replace the engine at no cost, according to the recall notice. For vehicles without debris, additional measures such as reprogramming the engine control module or replacing the oil pan gasket and engine oil will be taken.

Notification Timeline

Affected owners will receive mailed notification letters beginning August 25. Nissan and Infiniti customer service lines are available for assistance. Additionally, the NHTSA Hotline and website provide further information for concerned vehicle owners.
