• Universal’s Jurassic World Rebirth roared into theaters with a thunderous $322.5 million global debut—making it the second-biggest opening in franchise history. With a new cast led by Scarlett Johansson, dazzling effects, and non-stop dino action, the film has captured moviegoers’ imaginations and ignited a fresh wave of Jurassic mania across generations.

LOS ANGELES, CA (TDR) — The dinosaurs are back—and bigger than ever.

Jurassic World Rebirth, the latest installment in Universal and Amblin’s beloved dinosaur saga, has stomped its way to a massive $322.5 million worldwide opening. That includes a $147.8 million five-day domestic total and a stunning $174.7 million overseas. It marks the second-highest global debut in Jurassic franchise history, trailing only 2015’s Jurassic World.

And this time, a new star is leading the charge: Scarlett Johansson, trading in her Marvel gear for boots and bravery, plays a fearless paleobiologist drawn into a world where prehistoric predators once again roam the Earth.

A Franchise Reinvented

Directed by Rogue One filmmaker Gareth Edwards, Jurassic World Rebirth brings fresh energy to the iconic franchise. With a new cast, a bold storyline, and cutting-edge visual effects, the film resets the Jurassic universe without forgetting its roots.

Johansson’s addition to the franchise has been a talking point for months—and fans are clearly on board. The three-day domestic haul of $92 million topped her 2021 solo outing Black Widow, which debuted to $80.3 million amid a pandemic-altered release. But this isn’t just a star vehicle. Dinosaurs remain front and center, and audiences are loving the balance between human drama and colossal creature thrills.

“I got a really long email from Bryce Dallas Howard welcoming me into the Jurassic family,” Johansson shared in a recent press interview. “It’s truly a legacy, and I’m honored to be a part of it.”

A Roaring Global Footprint

Internationally, Jurassic World Rebirth is making an especially strong impact. The film opened to $41.6 million in China, marking the highest bow of the year for a Motion Picture Association title in the region. It also posted $7.4 million in South Korea, where a towering 3D T-Rex sculpture was installed at a popular Seongsu restaurant, drawing over 3 million visitors.

Other international highlights include $6.9 million in France, boosted by massive promotional banners at the Stade de France during Beyoncé’s sold-out shows and the Top 14 Rugby Final.

Cast appearances in London, Berlin, Mexico City, and Seoul helped fuel fan excitement. One standout moment came at CCXP Mexico, where 2,000 diehard fans welcomed the cast with roaring applause.

Marketing Magic and Dinosaur Mania

Universal’s blockbuster launch wasn’t just about dinosaurs on the big screen—it was a global media event. The studio rolled out its trademark “Symphony” marketing program, flooding NBCUniversal properties with Jurassic content. That included a TODAY Show takeover, behind-the-scenes special on Peacock, and major sports integrations during the NBA Playoffs and Wimbledon.

Fans also got a surprise when Jurassic World Rebirth served as the “Monday Mystery Movie” across AMC, Regal, and Cinemark theaters on June 23. Special 4DX screenings followed the next day, creating a buzz that translated directly to the box office.

The film also benefited from a social media tsunami. Influencers like Straw Hat Goofy and Marc Sebastian were among 155 creators invited to a Universal Studios screening and afterparty. Online engagement surged to over 921 million impressions across platforms—surpassing even Jurassic World Dominion by 18%.

What’s Next for the Dino Legacy?

With such a strong opening, Jurassic World Rebirth seems poised for a billion-dollar run. But what really sets this film apart is its ability to evolve with the times. Gone are the days of simply surviving the island—today’s Jurassic stars are building deeper character arcs, exploring ethical dilemmas, and pushing the franchise forward in unexpected ways.

“It’s still about wonder, fear, and survival,” Edwards told press. “But we’re also asking questions about what it means to co-exist, about science, and about legacy.”

And audiences are here for it.
