In an extraordinary act of bravery, Colorado resident Ryan Myrick displayed quick thinking and selflessness when he intervened to stop a vehicle whose driver had lost consciousness at the wheel. The incident took place on a busy highway in Lakewood on the afternoon of September 6.

Myrick, who was on his way home, noticed the erratic behavior of a car swerving uncontrollably before it struck the median barrier. Despite his efforts to alert the driver by honking and shouting, there was no response from within the veering vehicle.

Understanding the gravity of the situation, Myrick made a decisive move to halt his own truck in front of the straying car, allowing it to crash into his vehicle to bring it to a stop. "I positioned my truck ahead of hers; I just stopped and let her collide with me," Myrick recounted during an interview with KMGH-TV. An off-duty police officer present at the scene swiftly came forward, collaborating with Myrick to break into the car by smashing its windows and turning off its ignition. A nurse who happened upon the scene also offered assistance.

The driver of the car, identified as Ashleigh Dierking, regained consciousness shortly after. Although their interaction was brief before Dierking was transported to a hospital by emergency responders, she expressed gratitude towards Myrick for his life-saving intervention. Despite some damage to his bumper, Myrick mentioned he would not hesitate to perform such an act again if necessary.

"I’m so glad you’re doing well," said Myrick as they embraced, reflecting on his decision to intervene that day.
