Paramount+ is stirring the pot with the unveiling of its latest drama series “Landman,” a brainchild of “Yellowstone” maestro Taylor Sheridan. Drawing inspiration from Christian Wallace’s auditory narrative “Boomtown” originating in 2019, this fresh spectacle introduces us to the gritty universe of Texas oil through the eyes of Billy Bob Thornton’s character, Tommy Norris – better known as the “Landman.” His role? A crucial mediator and troubleshooter amidst the chaotic dance of oil rigs stretching across Texas. The star-studded lineup doesn’t stop at Thornton; it boasts names like Jon Hamm, Demi Moore, Michelle Randolph, Kayla Wallace, James Jordan, Jacob Lofland, and Paulina Chávez.
In a gripping trailer that captures the essence of the show, Thornton is seen navigating through vast Texan landscapes in his trusty white pickup truck, eyes peeled for any signs of trouble. His voiceover chillingly outlines the stakes: “The oil and gas industry bags $3 billion a day in pure profit,” he reveals. “But before you see a dime of it, there’s land to secure and people to manage. I take care of both. Securing land might be straightforward – but managing people? That could get you killed.” This marks Thornton’s grand return as a TV series lead following his acclaimed role in Amazon Prime’s “Goliath.”

Jon Hamm joins “Landman” riding high from his recent stint as Sheriff Roy Tillman in “Fargo’s” fifth season – another testament to Hamm’s versatile acting prowess post-“Mad Men.” Despite recent controversies surrounding Kevin Costner’s departure from “Yellowstone,” Sheridan’s flagship series remains a jewel in Paramount’s crown since its 2018 debut on Paramount Network. Its critical acclaim includes a best drama series nomination at the Critics Choice Awards and a Golden Globe win for Costner in 2023.
Helmed by Michael Friedman with scripts penned by Sheridan and Wallace himself, the executive production team reads like a who’s who of entertainment heavyweights including Friedman, Sheridan, Wallace, Scott Brown, Ron Burkle among others. Production credits go to 101 Studios, MTV Entertainment Studios along with Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch Productions.
Slated for release on Nov. 17th,” Landman” promises to be an explosive addition to Paramount+’s roster. So gear up and mark your calendars – if the trailer is anything to go by; this is one ride through Texas’ rugged terrains you won’t want to miss.
What are your thoughts on the upcoming series “Landman”? Are you excited to see Billy Bob Thornton take on this new role, and how do you feel about the show’s depiction of the Texas oil industry?
