- The F.B.I. searched Deputy Mayor Brian Williams’ home in connection to a bomb threat against Los Angeles City Hall; authorities placed Williams on administrative leave.

- Williams previously held prominent roles in Southern California’s government. He led the Sheriff Civilian Oversight Commission and served as a deputy mayor under former Mayor James Hahn.
F.B.I. agents recently searched the home of Brian Williams, a deputy mayor in Los Angeles, as part of an investigation into a bomb threat against City Hall, which authorities believe he made earlier this year.
Williams Placed on Administrative Leave
The mayor’s office announced that officials placed Williams, who Mayor Karen Bass appointed last year to lead public safety, on administrative leave following the search. However, investigators have not clarified the exact timing of the threat. The Los Angeles Police Department determined the threat was not immediately dangerous at the time.

As the investigation advanced, police identified Williams as the likely source of the threat and handed the case to the F.B.I. due to his professional ties with law enforcement. The Los Angeles F.B.I. office has declined to comment on the search, and efforts to contact Mr. Williams for his response have been unsuccessful.
Williams’ Role in Public Safety
Since February 2023, Williams has overseen various public safety departments, including the Police and Fire Departments, as well as security for major city hubs like the Port of Los Angeles and its airports.
Before this role, he held significant government positions in Southern California. He led the Sheriff Civilian Oversight Commission and worked as an assistant city attorney. His extensive background also includes serving under former Mayor James Hahn from 2001 to 2005 as a deputy mayor overseeing transportation and public works, among other city functions.
This investigation marks a significant turn in Williams’ long public service career and raises serious questions about his alleged threats against City Hall.
