Mark Burns, a prominent evangelical leader and personal spiritual advisor to President Donald Trump, recently visited Ukraine, urging the U.S. to provide advanced military aid to help the nation defend itself against ongoing Russian aggression. Burns, often referred to as “Trump’s Top Pastor” by Time Magazine, called for immediate action, including sending F-35 fighter jets, tanks, and anti-drone weaponry, to support Ukraine’s resistance and end the conflict.

Burns was invited to Ukraine by Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Azman and toured cities devastated by Russian attacks, including Bucha, Borodianka, and Irpin. These areas have become symbols of Russian atrocities, with reports of mass civilian deaths and war crimes. During his visit, Burns met with Ukrainian faith leaders, viewed evidence of Russian war crimes, and visited destroyed houses of worship and civilian areas.

“This war is bigger than politics,” Burns stated in a social media post. “Real people, including children, are dying here. We need to put aside partisan divisions and recognize the urgent need for support.”

A Call for U.S. Aid

Burns used his platform to advocate for significant U.S. military assistance. He highlighted the critical need for 1,000 tanks, 300 F-35 aircraft, and anti-air systems to defend against Russian drone attacks targeting civilian structures. Burns emphasized the human cost of the conflict, citing reports of over 20,000 Ukrainian children forcibly deported to Russia, the destruction of 700 religious buildings, and the brutal killing of non-combatants.

“Ukrainian soldiers aren’t asking for money,” Burns continued. “They’re asking for tools to defend their families, their faith, and their future. America has the power to help. President Trump sent Javelins instead of pillows—now we must continue this legacy.”

Religious Freedom Amid Chaos

One of Burns’ key observations was Ukraine’s commitment to religious freedom, even in the face of invasion. He condemned Russia’s “systematic religious persecution,” including the abduction of children and deliberate targeting of churches, synagogues, and mosques.

“Despite these horrors, Ukraine stands as a beacon of hope and religious tolerance,” Burns wrote. “It welcomes people of all faiths and remains strong in its resolve.”

Burns also shared personal anecdotes of speaking with Ukrainian pastors who had been tortured or executed by Russian forces. He described viewing photos of these victims and meeting soldiers who expressed gratitude toward the U.S. and President Trump for their support.

Burns’ Message to Policymakers

In his appeal, Burns encouraged U.S. policymakers to act decisively, regardless of political affiliations. “This isn’t about liking or disliking President Zelensky or debating budgets. This is about saving lives,” Burns said. He urged Congress to consider Ukraine’s requests for advanced military aid as a matter of moral responsibility.

Burns also criticized misleading narratives surrounding the conflict, comparing the prevalence of “fake news” in Ukraine to similar disinformation campaigns targeting President Trump in the U.S. He urged Americans to look beyond media biases and focus on the tangible suffering of Ukrainian civilians.

Ukrainian Government’s Response

The Ukrainian government appeared receptive to Burns’ visit. The state-run United24 platform shared photos and videos of Burns touring affected areas and meeting with Ukrainian leaders. In a featured article, United24 highlighted his calls for U.S. support and praised his efforts to raise awareness about Russian war crimes.

Burns concluded his visit by calling on Americans to pray for peace and unity. “My loyalty is first to Jesus Christ, and second to my nation and President Donald J. Trump,” Burns stated. He also denied receiving any compensation for his trip, emphasizing that his mission was driven solely by faith and a commitment to human life.
