An American Airlines flight turned into a scene of chaos on March 10, 2025, when a passenger allegedly attacked a flight attendant and swallowed rosary beads in a bizarre incident. The flight, operated by Envoy Air—Flight ENY 4162—had just departed from Savannah Hilton Head International Airport in Georgia, bound for Miami International Airport. But shortly after takeoff, the plane had to make an emergency return due to the passenger’s erratic behavior.

In-Flight Incident Sparks Panic

The trouble began just a minute into the flight, at approximately 8:13 PM. A passenger, later identified as Delange Augustin, reportedly started behaving strangely, prompting flight attendants to check on his condition. Witnesses described Augustin as “stomping, incoherent, yelling, and shaking.” When a crew member approached to assess the situation, Augustin allegedly kicked the flight attendant in the chest, sending them across the aisle and into a window.

The incident caused the flight attendant significant pain and difficulty breathing. Although the crew initially suspected a medical emergency, they soon grew concerned that Augustin’s actions were deliberate. With the safety of everyone on board in question, the crew and pilots made the decision to turn back to Savannah.

Violence Escalates Mid-Flight

As the plane prepared to return, the situation took an even more alarming turn. Augustin began punching and kicking the seat in front of him, eventually collapsing it. The passenger seated there was forced to move. According to reports, Augustin only calmed down after being informed the plane was heading back to its departure airport.

However, upon landing, the chaos reignited. Augustin unbuckled his seatbelt and stormed to the front of the cabin with his sister, Medijina Augustin, close behind. He then allegedly cornered a flight attendant and started throwing punches. Three passengers intervened to subdue him until police boarded the aircraft.

A Spiritual Battle?

The story took an unusual twist when authorities spoke with Medijina. She revealed that the siblings were traveling to Haiti to escape what they believed were spiritual attacks. She claimed that “evil comes out of the darkness” and described the flight as a spiritual battleground. Medijina stated her brother believed “Satan’s disciples” had followed them onto the plane, and swallowing the rosary beads was his way of gaining strength in the fight.

Despite the bizarre claims, Medijina insisted her brother had no medical or mental health issues. She explained that he felt compelled to protect both himself and her from harm.

Legal Consequences

After the incident, Augustin was taken to the hospital before being booked into Chatham County Jail. He now faces several charges, including misdemeanor battery, obstruction of law enforcement, and criminal property damage. Additionally, authorities determined there was probable cause to charge him with interfering with a flight crew—a serious federal offense.

American Airlines later issued a statement praising the crew’s professionalism and thanking passengers for their patience during the ordeal.
