• 86% of Americans blame Putin for the Russia-Ukraine conflict, with over half supporting U.S. military and economic aid to Ukraine.
  • 58% oppose Russia keeping occupied Ukrainian territory, while 46% believe the U.S. isn’t doing enough to help Kyiv.
  • 53% of Americans think Trump favors Russia, but most support peace negotiations involving all key players.

A new survey reveals 86% of Americans hold Vladimir Putin responsible for the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, with over half supporting U.S. economic and military aid to Ukraine. Meanwhile, 58% oppose Russia keeping occupied Ukrainian territory, and growing numbers believe the U.S. isn’t doing enough to assist Kyiv.

Majority Fault Putin for War

According to the poll, a staggering 86% of Americans hold Putin responsible for the three-year conflict. Yet, roughly one-third of respondents also attribute some blame to Zelensky, signaling a small but notable difference in views. These results align with the perception that Russia’s aggressive actions have escalated tensions in the region.

Personally, seeing these results reminds me of conversations I’ve had with neighbors who view Putin as the architect of this war. A friend recently noted, “If you start a fire, you’re to blame for the damage, no matter what anyone else does.”

When it comes to U.S. involvement, over half of Americans support providing financial support to Ukraine, with 55% backing economic aid. Additionally, 52% of respondents favor continued military assistance, including arms and supplies for Kyiv. This shows a steady public interest in standing with Ukraine, even as debates about international involvement continue.

Trump’s Role Sparks Divided Opinions

Interestingly, 53% of Americans believe that President Trump favors Russia over Ukraine. A separate NBC News survey found that nearly half of Americans think Trump sympathizes with Russia in the conflict, while only 8% see him as aligned with Ukraine. Despite this, Trump has taken a leading role in peace negotiations, with a majority of voters (69%) feeling that the U.S., EU, Russia, and Ukraine should all have seats at the negotiating table.

Americans Oppose Russian Land Grabs

The survey also revealed that 58% of voters are against allowing Russia to retain all Ukrainian territory it has taken during the conflict. Currently, Russia occupies 20% of Ukraine, a figure that remains a point of contention for many Americans. Furthermore, 76% of respondents trust Ukraine to adhere to a peace agreement, while only 20% feel the same confidence in Russia.

Growing Support for Increased U.S. Assistance

A Gallup poll, released earlier this week, found a growing number of Americans—now 46%—believe the U.S. is not doing enough to help Kyiv. This marks a 16-point increase since December last year, reflecting shifting public sentiment as the conflict drags on.
