Summary of Key Points:

  • National Security Adviser Mike Waltz takes full responsibility for a major security breach involving a private group chat.
  • Editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg, was mistakenly added to a sensitive Signal chat discussing plans for a military strike in Yemen.
  • Elon Musk and his tech team are investigating the cause of this security lapse.

National Security Adviser Mike Waltz took full responsibility on Tuesday for a shocking security lapse, where the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg, was accidentally added to a private group chat. This group, which included President Trump administration officials, was reportedly discussing sensitive plans for a military strike on the Houthis in Yemen.

During an interview with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, Waltz firmly stated, “A staffer wasn’t responsible. I take full responsibility. I built the group. My job is to make sure everything is coordinated.”

How Did Jeffrey Goldberg Get Involved?

The breach occurred on Signal, an encrypted messaging app. Waltz claimed he had no connection to Goldberg. “I can tell you, 100%, I don’t know this guy. I only know him by his terrible reputation. He despises the president, but I don’t text him. He wasn’t supposed to be there,” Waltz emphasized.

He also shared that he has recruited Elon Musk and his tech team to investigate how this massive error happened. Waltz speculated that someone else might have added Goldberg’s number to the chat. “We are determined to figure this out,” he added.
