Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy will not face charges after his recent arrest in Texas for an alleged assault. The Williamson County District Attorney, Shawn Dick, confirmed the decision on Saturday, citing insufficient evidence after consulting multiple witnesses.

Alleged Assault and Initial Arrest

Worthy was arrested on Friday in Williamson County, Texas, based on allegations of assault involving a family or household member. According to online jail records, the alleged incident included claims that the victim’s breathing had been restricted, which is classified under Texas law as a third-degree felony. This charge could carry a penalty of up to 10 years in prison. However, after further investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and discussions with third-party witnesses, authorities decided not to press charges at this time.

District Attorney Dick explained in an email to the Austin American-Statesman that the case remains under investigation. He stated, “After further inquiry and discussion with witnesses and Mr. Worthy’s attorneys, this case is being declined pending completion of the investigation. We will continue to evaluate the situation and may revisit the case if new evidence emerges.”

Worthy’s legal team is reportedly cooperating fully with authorities. Dick added that should new information come to light, the case could still be presented to a Williamson County Grand Jury for consideration.

Worthy’s Legal Team Defends Client

Shortly after the arrest, Worthy’s attorneys, Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett, released a statement asserting their client’s innocence. They claimed the complainant refused to leave Worthy’s home despite repeated requests over the past two weeks. The attorneys also accused the complainant of attempting to extort Worthy and described the allegations as baseless.

The statement read, “The complainant was asked multiple times to vacate Mr. Worthy’s residence after her infidelity was discovered. She refused to leave and made extortive efforts before resorting to this false allegation.” Furthermore, they alleged that Worthy’s property had been damaged during the dispute and that he had suffered bodily harm.
