Balmer was arrested the same day. Authorities revealed he carried “homemade incendiary devices” and had forcibly entered the residence before being inside for less than a minute. “He clearly had a methodical plan,” said Lt. Col. George Bivens of the Pennsylvania State Police.
Pending Charges and Investigation Details
State officials are preparing to file serious charges against Balmer, including attempted murder, terrorism, aggravated arson, and aggravated assault. Federal charges are also being considered, according to Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo.
The FBI’s Philadelphia field office is assisting state police in the ongoing investigation. Gov. Shapiro vowed to ensure a full security review to prevent future incidents. “I have total confidence in the Pennsylvania State Police,” he said at a press conference.
