- Meghan Markle faces plagiarism claims across her Netflix projects, podcast, cooking show, and lifestyle brand logo, sparking widespread debates on social media.
- British author Mel Elliott accused Markle’s scrapped Netflix series “Pearl” of mirroring her book series “Pearl Power,” raising concerns about intellectual property.
- Additional backlash includes similarities between Markle’s podcast and an existing show, her cooking series resembling Pamela Anderson’s, and her lifestyle brand logo allegedly copying a Spanish coat of arms.
Meghan Markle is under fire again as accusations of plagiarism continue to swirl around her creative projects. From her canceled Netflix animated series and podcasts to her lifestyle brand logo, critics claim the Duchess of Sussex has borrowed too liberally from existing works. While Markle has yet to respond to the allegations, the claims are gaining traction, sparking debates across social media.
Children’s Book Series Sparks Netflix Series Dispute
British author Mel Elliott, creator of the children’s book series “Pearl Power,” recently claimed that Markle’s scrapped Netflix animated series “Pearl” bore “too many similarities” to her books to ignore. Elliott’s series, published seven years before Markle’s project was announced in 2021, promotes themes of equality and female empowerment—themes also central to Markle’s series.
“Meghan is a feminist who supports other women, so I was disappointed and confused by the resemblance,” Elliott told The Daily Mail. She added, “What saddened me most was that Netflix and Archewell didn’t even acknowledge my concerns.”

Elliott had planned to adapt her own books into an animated series but said Markle’s project appeared to overshadow her efforts. “Now, if I continue with my own creation, it might look like I’m copying her,” she shared.
Plagiarism Claims Spread to Podcasts and Cooking Shows
Markle’s creative endeavors outside of Netflix have also come under scrutiny. After announcing her new podcast, “Confessions of a Female Founder,” earlier this year, fans quickly pointed out similarities to an existing podcast, “Confessions of a CEO.” Social media users weren’t shy about sharing their criticism.
“Tell me you don’t have an original thought without telling me you don’t,” one user posted on X, formerly Twitter, alongside a screenshot of the original podcast.
Additionally, Markle’s Netflix cooking show drew comparisons to Pamela Anderson’s show, “Pamela’s Cooking with Love,” which debuted in February. Royal expert Neil Sean even called Markle’s series a “frame-for-frame” copy of Anderson’s work, noting similar set designs and even a shot of Markle high-fiving a guest—something Anderson also did in her show.

“As you can see, Meghan has been inspired by Pamela’s cookery show, right?” Sean commented in a recent video on his YouTube channel.
Lifestyle Brand Logo Under Scrutiny
Markle’s troubles didn’t stop with Netflix and podcasts. The logo for her lifestyle brand, As Ever, has also raised eyebrows. Francisca Mora, mayor of the Mallorcan town of Porreres, Spain, claims the design is an “exact copy” of their historic coat of arms, which features a black and white palm tree flanked by two hummingbirds—identical to Markle’s logo.
The As Ever logo is prominently displayed on the brand’s website, but no response has been given to these accusations.
Social Media Reacts to the Controversy
The backlash has been intense across platforms. Many users labeled Markle’s actions as unoriginal, while others defended her, arguing that inspiration and borrowing are common in creative industries. TikTok videos dissecting the alleged similarities have gone viral, with creators overlaying side-by-side comparisons of the disputed works.
Elliott, however, has not been deterred by the lack of a response. “I hope that bringing attention to these issues can spark a broader conversation about respecting intellectual property and supporting less well-known creators,” she said.
What’s Next for Meghan Markle?
Despite the criticism, Markle continues to stay active in the public eye with new projects and collaborations. However, the mounting accusations could affect her credibility among fans and creators alike. Whether she will address the allegations remains to be seen.
