• Megyn Kelly criticized Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem for wearing tactical gear during ICE field ops, calling it unnecessary theatrics that hurt her credibility.
  • Noem defended her actions, stating it was a show of support for her team and aligned with DHS advice, dismissing the backlash as “noise.”
  • Both conservative and bipartisan figures, including Democrat Sen. Ruben Gallego, have raised concerns, accusing Noem of prioritizing optics over substance.

Conservative commentator Megyn Kelly didn’t hold back, calling out Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem for what she labeled “cosplay” during ICE field ops. While Kelly praised Noem’s leadership overall, she criticized her decision to don tactical gear and pose for photos, calling it unnecessary theatrics.

Kelly Applauds Leadership but Calls Out “Staged” Moments

On her podcast, “The Megyn Kelly Show”, Kelly questioned Noem’s approach. “She’s great at leading DHS, but these photo-ops hurt her credibility,” Kelly said. She took aim at Noem’s attempts to “glamorize” her role, adding, “She’s not an ICE agent. Let’s skip the Hollywood stunts.”

Kelly’s comments echo a growing demand for authenticity in leadership, where actions should speak louder than staged images.

Noem stood her ground, defending her decision to wear ICE gear in an appearance on Fox News’s “Jesse Watters Primetime.” She dismissed the backlash as “noise,” focusing instead on her commitment to the job. “The agents appreciate seeing me support them like this,” Noem said, claiming her approach was guided by DHS advice. According to Noem, her hands-on methods showcase solidarity and pride in the work her team does. “The last leadership team didn’t offer this kind of connection,” she added.

Bipartisan Pushback Hits Noem

Noem isn’t just facing heat from conservatives like Kelly. Democrat Sen. Ruben Gallego, a Marine veteran, recently blasted her for posing with a rifle in Arizona. On Twitter, Gallego mocked her gun handling, calling out safety concerns and suggesting she focus on due process in deportations instead of photo-ops.

This bipartisan criticism highlights the challenges public officials face when trying to balance optics and leadership. While some see Noem’s approach as genuine, others dismiss it as performative grandstanding.
