Alisyn Camerota, a former CNN journalist, had directly addressed claims of a media “coverup” regarding President Joe Biden’s mental and physical state during her time at the network, sparking fresh debate over the media’s role in presidential accountability. Her comments came as CNN’s Jake Tapper released his new book, Original Sin, which alleged that the Biden administration had worked to shield the president from scrutiny amid whispers of declining health.
Biden’s Gaffes Were “Out in the Open”
Speaking on her podcast Sanity with co-host Dave Briggs, Camerota had dismissed accusations of gatekeeping. Instead, she argued that Biden’s gaffes had been plainly visible during live coverage of his speeches.
“If there was a ‘coverup,’ it was happening out in the open, in real time,” Camerota had said. “We broadcast his speeches live—start to finish—whether he was at a crumbling bridge or promoting the Infrastructure Act. It was undiluted, unvarnished.”

Camerota had recounted that Biden’s verbal stumbles, tangents, and repeated old stories had been so frequent that she and co-anchor Victor Blackwell had jokingly played “bingo” to predict his missteps.
“This wasn’t hidden—it was public,” Camerota had noted.
Tapper’s Book Raised Tough Questions
The controversy stemmed from Original Sin, co-authored by Tapper and journalist Alex Thompson. The book claimed that White House officials had deliberately insulated Biden to minimize public exposure to his cognitive and physical challenges. Critics argued that this strategy had kept voters in the dark, eroding trust in both the media and the Democratic Party.

One moment of friction had arisen during the podcast when Briggs commented, “This is a real stain on the credibility of the media. It signaled a failure to hold the administration accountable.”
A Damning Blow to Media and Democrats?
Conservatives had long argued that mainstream media outlets, especially CNN, had demonstrated bias in their treatment of Biden compared to President Donald Trump. Camerota had pushed back, suggesting that Biden’s slip-ups weren’t ignored but had been less relevant than his policies and decision-making.
However, Briggs had countered, calling the situation “a devastating stain” on both the media and the Democratic Party. “Their refusal to acknowledge this issue may well lead to a second Trump term,” he had warned.
What Was Next for the Media?
The conversation reflected a growing frustration with how the media had reported on Democratic candidates, especially given the stakes of the 2024 election. With President Biden’s age and gaffes becoming more visible, the question remained whether the media would take a more critical stance moving forward—or continue to risk public trust.
