New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson is at the center of a civil lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday, accusing him of two counts of rape and years of alleged abuse, threats, and stalking. The plaintiff, listed as “Jane Doe,” alleges a pattern of troubling behavior spanning from 2020 to 2023, according to court documents obtained by Law & Crime.

The lawsuit accuses Williamson of engaging in non-consensual acts and coercive control during what Doe describes as a tumultuous relationship. “He demanded sex. I said no. That’s when he pinned me down, held my hands behind my back, and raped me,” the court filing claims, detailing an alleged incident in September 2020.

Doe alleges that another assault occurred in October 2020 when Williamson became enraged over her planned trip to San Diego. “He started breaking things in the room, yelling, and then he threw me down and raped me again,” the document states. Afterward, Doe claims Williamson confiscated her phone and laptop to prevent her from reaching out to law enforcement or others.

The legal filing paints a picture of a toxic and abusive dynamic, alleging Williamson engaged in stalking, harassment, and intimidation over a three-year period. Doe asserts that Williamson tracked her location, went through her personal belongings without consent, and sent threatening messages. In one particularly disturbing claim, the plaintiff alleges Williamson threatened her life, saying, “He told me he’d have his security guard shoot me in the head. He even sent that man after my parents.”

Williamson’s legal team responded swiftly, categorically denying the allegations. In a statement issued Friday, his attorneys called the claims “meritless” and accused Doe of attempting to exploit a professional athlete. “This was a consensual, casual relationship. Nothing more,” the statement read. Williamson’s legal team added that the NBA star has reported alleged extortion attempts by Doe to law enforcement and plans to file a counterclaim.

The New Orleans Pelicans have declined to comment, deferring all inquiries to Williamson’s representatives. The team’s silence comes as the lawsuit sparks widespread attention across both the sports world and social media platforms, with fans and critics alike dissecting the allegations.

Legal experts say the case could hinge on the credibility of both parties and any corroborating evidence presented in court. Civil cases such as this require the plaintiff to prove allegations by a preponderance of the evidence, a lower standard than the “beyond a reasonable doubt” threshold in criminal cases. If Doe’s claims are substantiated, the court could award her damages. However, Williamson’s planned counterclaim introduces the possibility of defamation-related litigation.

This lawsuit adds to a growing list of high-profile legal battles involving professional athletes and raises broader questions about the intersection of power, accountability, and personal conduct in sports. The case remains in its early stages, but its implications could be far-reaching for both Williamson’s career and the NBA’s public image.
