- Steve Bannon urges Trump to investigate Elon Musk’s immigration status, alleging he is an “illegal alien.”
- Bannon also calls for probes into Musk’s alleged drug use and access to classified briefings.
- Musk has not publicly responded but denies wrongdoing, as tensions with Trump’s camp escalate.
WASHINGTON (TDR) — Steve Bannon, a close ally of President Donald Trump, told The New York Times on Thursday that he has been advising Trump on ways to counter Elon Musk’s public criticisms. Among Bannon’s suggestions are opening investigations into Musk’s immigration status, exploring allegations of drug use, and examining his access to classified materials.
“They should initiate a formal investigation of his immigration status because I am of the strong belief that he is an illegal alien, and he should be deported from the country immediately,” Bannon said in an interview with the Times. Musk, originally from South Africa, became a U.S. citizen in 2002.
Calls for Deportation
Bannon is not the only figure urging action against Musk. Rep. Adam Smith (R-Wash.) echoed Bannon’s stance, writing on X, formerly known as Twitter, “If [Trump] wants to get back at Musk, there’s a simple option. Send ICE after him. Deport him for lying about his immigration history when he applied for citizenship.”

Musk has not publicly responded to these accusations but has previously denied any wrongdoing related to his citizenship or business practices.
Allegations of Drug Use and Classified Briefings
Bannon also called for an investigation into Musk’s alleged drug use and efforts to obtain classified briefings on China. Bannon claimed Trump previously blocked Musk from receiving sensitive information, a decision reportedly made after the New York Times raised questions about the matter.
Bannon said on his WarRoom podcast, “This is unprecedented and unnecessary from Elon Musk. Some of the things he’s putting up are outside the bounds of behavior.”
Earlier in the day, Musk accused Trump of being linked to the “Epstein Files,” referring to documents allegedly connected to financier Jeffrey Epstein. The claim has not been substantiated and has sparked significant backlash.
A History of Criticism

Bannon has long criticized Musk, often accusing him of being disloyal to the United States. In February, Bannon told UnHerd’s James Billot, “Musk is a parasitic illegal immigrant.” He also criticized Musk’s use of H-1B visas for foreign workers and his technological ventures, calling them “freak experiments.”
Their feud escalated earlier this year, with Musk becoming an outspoken critic of Trump’s policies and public statements.
What’s Next?
The growing tension between Musk and Trump’s camp could have lasting implications for both figures. Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is a prominent public figure and has been vocal on political issues. Any investigation into his immigration status or business practices may draw significant attention and controversy.
President Trump has not commented on Bannon’s remarks or Smith’s suggestion to involve Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The potential for political and legal battles looms as both sides escalate their rhetoric. It remains unclear whether the White House will act on Bannon’s proposals.
