DALLAS (TDR) — Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, said during a televised interview Sunday that some Republicans have privately expressed admiration for her, a claim that sparked surprise from the interviewer.
Crockett appeared on WFAA’s Inside Texas Politics with senior political reporter Jason Whitely for a wide-ranging discussion. The freshman congresswoman, known for her outspoken role on the House Oversight Committee, addressed her evolving public persona, political aspirations, and bipartisan perceptions.
During the interview, Crockett dismissed speculation about a potential 2028 presidential run. “No,” she said when asked if she had plans to lead the Democratic Party or seek higher office.

She went on to describe how her appeal could cross party lines. “I’ve had Republicans walk up to me and tell me how much they like me,” Crockett said. Whitely responded with skepticism, saying, “No, you haven’t! Are you serious?” Crockett insisted, “Oh yeah, yeah. You’d be surprised.”
Crockett Reflects on Oversight Role, Viral Moments
Crockett also discussed her tenure on the Oversight Committee, where she has gained national attention for her sharp questioning during hearings. Highlighting her approach, she said, “I will remain unapologetic for promoting my party’s values.”
The congresswoman expressed optimism about Democratic prospects in the 2024 elections, predicting her party would retake the House. She suggested that if Democrats regain the majority, they could explore impeaching President Donald Trump for a third time. “Whether or not we would put it to a vote, you know, he’s been impeached twice, couldn’t get convicted,” she said.
Broader Implications
Crockett’s remarks reflect ongoing partisan divides as both parties prepare for the upcoming election cycle. Her comments about reaching across the aisle may signal attempts to appeal to a wider audience. However, her focus on potential impeachment proceedings highlights the contentious road ahead if Democrats reclaim control.
