WASHINGTON, D.C. — Law enforcement arrested Washington Post journalist Thomas Pham LeGro, 48, on Thursday, accusing him of possessing child pornography, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia announced. The arrest follows an FBI search of LeGro’s home in Washington, D.C., which uncovered incriminating evidence, including videos of child sexual abuse on a work laptop, according to federal prosecutors.

Evidence Found During FBI Search

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said in an official statement, “A folder on Mr. LeGro’s work laptop contained 11 videos of child sexual abuse material. Additionally, fragments of a hard drive were located near the room with the laptop.” The FBI seized multiple electronic devices from LeGro’s residence during the search.

Prosecutors allege LeGro was tied to an account on the digital currency platform E-Gold, used for payments to websites trafficking in child pornography, according to a redacted affidavit.

LeGro was employed as the deputy director of video at The Washington Post and was part of a Pulitzer Prize-winning team in 2018. In response, the newspaper stated, “We understand the severity of these allegations, and the employee has been placed on leave.”
