Tesla CEO Elon Musk criticized the Republican Party on Tuesday, calling for voters to remove GOP lawmakers who supported a controversial federal spending bill. Musk labeled the legislation a “disgusting abomination,” accusing it of betraying the American people.
Musk’s criticism came in response to the House passing President Donald Trump’s budget bill. He condemned the bill’s provisions for increased spending while cutting taxes, arguing they would add significantly to the national deficit.
“In November next year, we fire all politicians who betrayed the American people,” Musk wrote on X, formerly Twitter, amplifying a post critical of the GOP’s actions.

Musk praised two Republican representatives, Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Warren Davidson of Ohio, for opposing the bill. Massie had previously voiced concerns, stating it would continue high levels of spending while increasing the federal deficit.
Meanwhile, Senator Rand Paul, Massie’s fellow Kentucky libertarian, also criticized the bill. Paul expressed his opposition on X, writing, “I want to see the tax cuts made permanent, but I also want to see the $5 trillion in new debt removed from the bill.” Musk replied to Paul’s post, saying, “Thank you.”
Background on the Controversy
The House bill, supported by President Trump, was promoted as a measure to both slash taxes and stimulate domestic spending. Critics, however, argue that it disproportionately benefits special interests while exacerbating the national debt.
Musk, who recently left a role within the Trump administration, has become increasingly vocal on political issues. His commentary follows ongoing tensions within the GOP, as lawmakers debate balancing fiscal responsibility with tax relief.

What is wrong with Musk? Trump didn’t invite him to draft spending bills, he brought him in to find arears of fraud and waste that could be cut, which he did. Drafting spending bills in not in his bailywick. Trump trusted this guy to do the job he brought him in for, had his back all the way, backed him up on everything. Now Musk wants to stab Trump in the back? What a jerk.
