HOUSTON, TX — A rent dispute turned deadly after a man allegedly murdered his teenage roommate and attempted to harm others in a shocking case that has rocked the Harris County community.
Angel Gomez Montanez, 21, is accused of fatally shooting Christopher Rodriguez Lara, 18, after being asked to contribute to household expenses. The suspect, who had been living rent-free for months, was arrested after a two-day manhunt and now faces charges of murder.
A Family Connection Turns Tragic
Investigators revealed that Gomez Montanez wasn’t just a random roommate but had familial ties to the victim. He had been staying on the apartment’s couch for three months, according to Zuleyka Ortiz, the victim’s sister-in-law. “The only thing we told him is we needed the money for rent,” Ortiz told KTRK. “We have bills to pay.”
