• As Congress enters its August recess, scandal and scrutiny refuse to take a vacation. With mounting investigations into Joe Biden’s mental state, Jeffrey Epstein’s network, and explosive claims of Obama-era election meddling, the summer storm in Washington is only beginning.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (TDR) — As lawmakers pack up for the August recess, a cascade of investigations threatens to reshape the political landscape—and stall key elements of President Trump’s agenda. What began as a review of former President Joe Biden’s mental decline has now grown into a wider scandal implicating past administrations, intelligence officials, and high-profile elites connected to Jeffrey Epstein.

The House Oversight Committee’s probe into Biden’s fitness for office intensified last week, with three close aides—Annie Tomasini, Anthony Bernal, and Dr. Kevin O’Connor—all pleading the Fifth. But a turning point may have come Thursday, when Ron Klain, Biden’s former chief of staff, testified voluntarily in a closed-door session.

“Klain told us Biden’s memory had deteriorated a little,” said Rep. James Comer, chairman of the committee. “He wasn’t as sharp. But Klain insisted Biden was still competent to lead.”

In an interview with Newsmax, Comer cited revelations from Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson’s new book Original Sin, which claims Biden was increasingly a figurehead in the final year of his presidency.

“Five people were running the country,” Comer quoted. “Joe Biden was at best a senior member of the board.”

Epstein Probe Expands to High-Profile Names

Comer confirmed Thursday that Ghislaine Maxwell has been subpoenaed for a deposition at her Florida prison on August 11. He also revealed that Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche had already conducted interviews with Maxwell over two days.

More subpoenas are imminent.

“We’re going to call in Bill and Hillary Clinton, James Comey, Loretta Lynch, Merrick Garland, Robert Mueller, and others,” Comer said.

The investigation now spans multiple presidential administrations, from Barack Obama to George W. Bush, and potentially even implicates current officials.

Asked whether President Trump would consider granting clemency to Maxwell, he was noncommittal.

“I’m allowed to do it, but it’s something I have not thought about,” Trump said before boarding Air Force One for a trip to Scotland.

Russiagate, Distraction, or Damning Evidence?

The Epstein probe isn’t the only investigation rattling Capitol Hill. Explosive claims from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard allege that the Obama administration manufactured intelligence to frame Trump’s 2016 campaign for Russian collusion.

Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., dismissed the allegation as political theater designed to “distract from the Epstein files.”

“Tulsi Gabbard has been on the outs with Trump since she undermined him on Iran. She’s helping him distract,” Warner wrote on X.

But Gabbard appeared at the White House Wednesday to double down on her claim, describing it as a “soft coup” orchestrated by senior intelligence officials.

Legislative Gridlock Looms

The fallout may already be disrupting Trump’s broader policy goals. The White House is reportedly frustrated that over 100 of the president’s nominees remain unconfirmed, and Trump has urged Senate Majority Leader John Thune to cancel the recess and expedite confirmations.

“We need to govern, not vacation,” Trump told aides, according to senior officials.
