- Bipartisan House members back Rep. Massie’s discharge petition to unseal Epstein case files. Legislation would mandate DOJ and FBI release investigative materials while protecting victims’ identities and preserving national security interests.
WASHINGTON, D.C. (TDR) — In an era when unity is elusive, a bipartisan coalition of lawmakers has rallied behind Representative Thomas Massie’s (R-Ky.) effort to unseal the federal government’s files on disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. Massie’s proposed Epstein Files Transparency Act would mandate the release of investigative records long shielded from public view.
“We all deserve to know what’s in the Epstein files, who’s implicated, and how deep this corruption goes,” Massie declared on X. “We’re introducing a discharge petition to force a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives on releasing the COMPLETE files.”
Procedural Power Meets Public Pressure
A discharge petition enables the House majority to bypass committee leadership and force legislation to the floor. Massie confirmed that signature collection will begin within the week, requiring at least 218 members to advance the bill.
Already, unlikely allies have emerged. Co-sponsors of the petition include Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), and Ro Khanna (D-Calif.), highlighting rare ideological unity in the pursuit of transparency.
The bill would require the Attorney General to publicly disclose materials held by the DOJ, FBI, and U.S. Attorneys’ Offices. These include: Key records include Epstein’s flight logs, names linked to investigations, DOJ memos, details of his prison death, and entities tied to trafficking.
Trump Signals Support
President Trump signaled his endorsement of disclosure efforts on Truth Social:
“Based on the ridiculous amount of publicity given to Jeffrey Epstein, I have asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to produce any and all pertinent Grand Jury testimony, subject to Court approval.”
Attorney General Pam Bondi responded on X, affirming her readiness to proceed. The DOJ has since formally asked a federal judge to unseal Epstein-related grand jury materials.
Respecting the Rule of Law—and the Victims
The legislation incorporates redaction authority for material that could identify victims, contain child exploitation content, or compromise active investigations. Representative Nancy Mace (R-S.C.), a co-sponsor, emphasized:
“Transparency and justice can coexist with dignity and protection for the victims.”
Ghislaine Maxwell, currently serving a 20-year sentence, has reportedly expressed willingness to testify before Congress, potentially offering key insights into Epstein’s network.
As Americans await accountability, the question remains: Will Congress prioritize truth over secrecy and ensure justice is served—regardless of who may be implicated?
