• President Trump dismissed renewed interest in the Jeffrey Epstein case, downplaying public concerns about transparency after Attorney General Pam Bondi’s DOJ memo denied the existence of a client list. MAGA influencers and lawmakers remain skeptical, demanding answers as trust in federal institutions erodes over perceived contradictions and misinformation.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (TDR) — President Trump brushed aside mounting calls for transparency in the Jeffrey Epstein case Tuesday, telling reporters he doesn’t understand why his base remains so invested in the matter, even as his own Justice Department faces internal backlash over its handling of the investigation.

“I don’t understand what the interest or what the fascination is. I really don’t,” Trump said at Joint Base Andrews. “He’s dead for a long time. He was never a big factor in terms of life.”

His comments came just days after Attorney General Pam Bondi’s Department of Justice released a memo stating that Epstein did not keep a “client list,” contradicting Bondi’s earlier claims to Fox News that the list was “sitting on my desk right now.”

The DOJ memo also reaffirmed the department’s longstanding position that Epstein died by suicide in 2019, reigniting outrage among Trump’s supporters and key allies like FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino and Director Kash Patel, both of whom had previously suggested that Epstein’s files implicated elite individuals across multiple industries.

Bongino has reportedly threatened resignation over the issue, and high-profile conservatives have begun calling for a special counsel, with Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) even floating Matt Gaetz as a potential appointee.

“Credible information, let them give it. Anything that’s credible, I would say let them have it,” Trump added, while criticizing continued media interest as “fake news” and “boring stuff.”

Political Risk for Trump’s DOJ

The sharp pivot by Bondi has cast doubt on internal consistency within the Trump administration, with some MAGA-aligned figures accusing the DOJ of slow-walking disclosure to protect powerful figures. Polling from Rasmussen shows 61% of likely GOP voters still believe Epstein was murdered.

The president’s dismissal of the issue may further fracture support at a time when his base is demanding hard answers.

Is Trump’s downplaying of the Epstein case a necessary pivot—or a misstep that could backfire with his base?
