• Rep. Lauren Boebert is calling for former Congressman Matt Gaetz to be appointed special counsel to investigate the Epstein files, citing public distrust in the Justice Department’s handling of the case under President Trump. The move would mark a dramatic political twist after Gaetz’s failed attorney general nomination.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (TDR) — Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) said Tuesday that former Rep. Matt Gaetz should be appointed as a special counsel to investigate federal documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, intensifying calls from President Trump’s allies for greater transparency in the Justice Department.

Boebert made the remarks during an appearance on The Benny Show, responding to what she called growing MAGA frustration over Attorney General Pam Bondi’s handling of the so-called Epstein files.

“Of course we want answers. No one is satisfied with what has been received or lack thereof,” Boebert said. “There has to be a special investigation into this if we aren’t going to be provided information.”

Boebert Floats Gaetz as Investigator

Boebert proposed an unexpected name to lead the probe: Matt Gaetz. Gaetz resigned from Congress in late 2024 after President Trump nominated him for U.S. attorney general, only for the process to collapse under bipartisan backlash and unresolved misconduct allegations.

“Maybe Matt Gaetz can lead the special counsel,” Boebert suggested. “Matt has spoke highly of Pam Bondi… but yes. Matt Gaetz as special counsel, absolutely.”

Trump himself praised Gaetz at the time of his withdrawal from the nomination, writing:

“Matt has a wonderful future, and I look forward to watching all of the great things he will do!” Source

Epstein Files Stir MAGA World

The controversy stems from a disputed memo released by AG Bondi stating that Epstein did not possess a client list related to sex trafficking. That claim has been widely rejected by conservatives, including FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino, who reportedly threatened to resign over the issue.

Political Fallout for DOJ

Gaetz now hosts The Matt Gaetz Show on One America News, where he continues to influence Trump-aligned conservatives. His appointment would likely face immediate scrutiny, but Boebert’s remarks signal a broader MAGA effort to sidestep traditional federal channels.

Is appointing a partisan figure like Matt Gaetz the solution to restoring trust in the Epstein investigation—or will it deepen division?
