• House Republicans advanced a subpoena for Ghislaine Maxwell amid bipartisan momentum to uncover the truth behind Jeffrey Epstein’s network. As calls grow louder for transparency, the Department of Justice confirms it is coordinating with Maxwell’s attorneys while Congress demands answers. The move underscores mounting pressure on President Trump’s administration to release the Epstein files.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (TDR) — In a move that signals intensifying congressional interest in the Jeffrey Epstein case, a House Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee voted Tuesday to subpoena Ghislaine Maxwell, the imprisoned former associate of Epstein, to appear for a deposition before Congress.

Congressional Momentum Builds

The motion, spearheaded by Representative Tim Burchett of Tennessee, passed by voice vote during a separate subcommittee hearing, reflecting bipartisan urgency to probe deeper into Epstein’s sordid legacy and determine who else may have enabled or participated in his criminal network.

“Recently, Rep. Burchett sent a letter to Chairman Comer requesting a subpoena for Ghislaine Maxwell’s testimony,” a committee spokesperson stated. “In response, Chairman Comer directed Rep. Burchett to introduce a motion… allowing the Committee to formally consider whether to proceed.”

The committee has since confirmed it is working with the Department of Justice and the Bureau of Prisons to arrange a formal deposition, coordinating Maxwell’s availability as she continues to serve a federal prison sentence.

Bipartisanship Amid Deepening Division

The vote to issue the subpoena received bipartisan support, marking a rare moment of unity in a chamber otherwise defined by political brinkmanship.

“Oversight Democrats just unanimously voted to subpoena Ghislaine Maxwell,” the House Oversight Democrats posted on X. “This is progress. We will not stop fighting until the Epstein Files are released. Trump and Bondi must stop blocking the American people from the truth.”

Despite this unified vote, underlying tensions remain. President Trump has urged GOP lawmakers to tread carefully on the matter, wary of partisan exploitation and media misrepresentation.

Amid mounting pressure, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche issued a statement Tuesday confirming that discussions with Maxwell’s legal counsel are underway.

“This Department of Justice does not shy away from uncomfortable truths,” Blanche said. “President Trump has told us to release all credible evidence. If Ghislaine Maxwell has information about anyone who has committed crimes against victims, the FBI and DOJ will hear what she has to say.”

Blanche further confirmed that the DOJ, under the direction of Attorney General Pam Bondi, had initiated contact with Maxwell’s attorney and intends to meet with her in the coming days.

A Delicate Political Balancing Act

The issue has created fissures within the Republican ranks. While many GOP lawmakers echo President Trump’s calls for full transparency, others in leadership are reluctant to act without coordination from the administration.

Last week, the House Rules Committee narrowly avoided a vote to bring a binding resolution on Epstein files to the House floor. That effort followed advancement of a nonbinding resolution by Republicans in an attempt to quell public outcry and maintain control of the narrative.

“The Republicans on the Rules Committee… were wrongfully tarred and feathered by people who did not understand what was happening,” Speaker Mike Johnson said last week. “They were in favor of transparency.”

Maxwell’s Counsel Signals Cooperation

David Oscar Markus, Maxwell’s attorney, indicated Maxwell may cooperate if a meeting with federal officials proceeds in good faith.

“I can confirm that we are in discussions with the government and that Ghislaine will always testify truthfully,” Markus posted. “We are grateful to President Trump for his commitment to uncovering the truth in this case.”

With bipartisan resolve and public attention sharpening, the focus now shifts to the Department of Justice and whether Maxwell’s testimony will illuminate long-shielded elements of Epstein’s sprawling criminal web.
