- Bill O’Reilly fumbles Epstein facts live on-air, wrongly blaming the Biden administration for a conviction that never happened — and gets instantly fact-checked by his own host. The viral moment reignites bipartisan backlash over the DOJ’s Epstein memo, as lawmakers demand answers and transparency from the federal government.
CHICAGO, IL (TDR) — Bill O’Reilly set off a political firestorm Monday night after falsely claiming Jeffrey Epstein was convicted under President Biden — a slip-up that triggered a live, on-air correction and sent social media into overdrive.
The former Fox News giant made the gaffe during a heated segment on NewsNation’s On Balance, attacking House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries over his demand for answers following the Department of Justice’s controversial July 6 memo on Epstein.
“Epstein was convicted during the Biden administration,” O’Reilly insisted, adding, “Jeffries knows it.”
Bill O’Reilly doubled down: “Epstein was convicted under Merrick Garland’s Justice Department.”
Leland Vittert: “He was arrested in 2019, and he committed suicide in 2019… So the Biden administration was not involved in a conviction or a trial of him.”

Vittert Jumps In Fast
Host Leland Vittert quickly hit the brakes.
“Hold on, Bill. Epstein committed suicide during the Trump administration,” Vittert fired back. “He died in 2019. Biden had nothing to do with a conviction — there was none.”

O’Reilly tried to pivot, claiming Epstein was arrested and indicted under Attorney General Merrick Garland, only for Vittert to shut him down again.
“That’s false. Epstein was arrested and died in 2019. Trump was president. Garland wasn’t even AG,” Vittert said, nodding emphatically.
Social Media Goes Wild
The viral clip exploded across X (formerly Twitter), with critics blasting O’Reilly for “rewriting history” and fans praising Vittert for fact-checking in real time.
“If you’re gonna lecture Congress, at least get the decade right,” one viewer posted.
Meanwhile, Epstein’s shadow still hangs heavy over Washington.
The DOJ’s memo claimed Epstein had “no client list” and died by suicide — but critics across party lines aren’t buying it. Rep. Ro Khanna, Sen. Dick Durbin, and even Jeffries have questioned whether key files are being hidden or destroyed.
“We need the full Epstein file — unredacted,” Khanna told reporters last week.
Will the Epstein mystery ever be solved — or is the truth buried with the evidence? Sound off in the comments.
