• President Trump has pledged federal aid as Texas faces devastating flash floods, leaving 24 dead and many missing. Rescue efforts are underway as officials use helicopters, drones, and ground teams to locate victims, including 23 missing girls from a summer camp.

KERRVILLE, TX (TDR) — Massive flash floods along the Guadalupe River in Texas have left 24 people dead and dozens missing as rescue crews race against time to find survivors. Among the missing are 23 girls from an all-girls summer camp located on the river’s banks. President Trump, addressing the crisis aboard Air Force One, called the situation “terrible” and “shocking,” confirming federal aid to support the state’s response efforts.

Federal Government Pledges Support

Speaking to reporters en route to his New Jersey golf club, President Trump assured, “Oh yeah, we’ll take care of them. We’re working with the governor. It’s a terrible thing.” Acting Texas Governor Dan Patrick confirmed multiple calls with the White House, stating, “The president sent the message, ‘Whatever we need, we will have.'”

The rescue response currently involves 400-500 personnel on the ground, supported by 14 helicopters and 12 drones. Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha reported that 237 people had been rescued as of Friday evening, with efforts ongoing despite challenging conditions.

Assistance from the U.S. Coast Guard includes overnight evacuations through severe storms, according to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. Writing on X, she stated, “This is what the men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard do.” Reunification centers have been established at Ingram Elementary School and The Arcadia Live theater in Kerrville, with the Red Cross assisting families searching for missing loved ones.

Policy Implications and Accountability

The situation has reignited discussions on state and federal disaster readiness. With Texas frequently facing extreme weather events, questions have been raised about infrastructure investments and emergency preparedness. Critics argue that outdated flood management systems and insufficient funding exacerbate such tragedies.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Patrick urged Texans to unite in prayer, saying, “Do some serious praying this afternoon—on your knees kind of praying—that we find these young girls alive and safe.”

What’s Next for Survivors?

As rescue operations continue, officials face mounting pressure to provide answers about the state’s preparedness and long-term solutions to mitigate future disasters.
