- President Trump’s controversial “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” sparks outrage, splits Republicans, and ignites fiery debates over its multitrillion-dollar impact on debt, taxes, and social programs as the House edges closer to a final vote.
WASHINGTON, D.C. (TDR) — President Trump is fuming as House Republicans remain divided over his ambitious “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” a sweeping multitrillion-dollar package that promises tax cuts, military funding, and a bitter fight over the nation’s debt.
The drama reached fever pitch when Trump lashed out on Truth Social early Thursday, blasting GOP holdouts who refuse to back the legislation. “FOR REPUBLICANS, THIS SHOULD BE AN EASY YES VOTE. RIDICULOUS!!!” Trump fumed, accusing dissenting Republicans of costing the party votes.
“Largest Tax Cuts in History and a Booming Economy vs. Biggest Tax Increase in History, and a Failed Economy. What are you waiting for???” he raged in a follow-up post.

The bill, packed with tax cuts, defense spending, and cuts to welfare programs, narrowly cleared the Senate earlier this week after Vice President JD Vance cast a dramatic tie-breaking vote. But the Senate’s significant amendments are putting the entire package in jeopardy as it returns to the House for approval.
Republicans Split Over Debt and Spending
The heart of the conflict centers on the Congressional Budget Office’s (CBO) projection that the 940-page legislation would increase the U.S. deficit by $2.4 trillion over the next decade. Additionally, the Senate’s version of the bill raises the debt ceiling by an eye-popping $5 trillion, the largest hike in U.S. history.
Fiscal conservatives are not happy. Representative Thomas Massie was among five Republicans who voted “no” during the procedural vote, which lasted until 3 a.m. Thursday. “This bill is political suicide,” said Massie, warning that the deficit could cripple America’s financial future.
GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson faces an uphill battle to rally Republican votes. With the party holding a razor-thin majority, any more than three GOP defections could kill the bill unless Democrats step in—a highly unlikely scenario.

Johnson, however, remains confident. “We are absolutely confident we’re going to land this plane,” he declared, vowing to keep the vote open “as long as it takes.”
Trump Allies vs. Critics
The bill has exposed stark divides among Trump’s allies and critics. Elon Musk, once a staunch supporter, has turned on the former president, calling the bill “utterly insane” and threatening to form a new “America Party” in response. “This is destructive for the country,” Musk said, blasting the debt ceiling increase as reckless.
Trump, in turn, issued a scathing response, accusing Musk of hypocrisy. “He may have gotten more subsidy than any human being in history,” Trump said on Truth Social, leaving the door open to potential deportation of the South African-born billionaire.
Meanwhile, Democratic Representative Marcy Kaptur didn’t hold back, calling the legislation a “big, bloated bonanza bill for billionaires.” California Governor Gavin Newsom joined the pile-on, branding Speaker Johnson a “small, pathetic man” for allegedly selling out 40 percent of his district who rely on Medicaid.
What’s in the “Big, Beautiful Bill”?
At the core of Trump’s legislation is a proposal to make his 2017 tax cuts permanent. The bill also increases state and local tax deductions from $10,000 to $40,000, benefiting residents in high-tax states like California and New York.
Additional provisions include billions in funding for border security, military expansion, and slashing Medicaid and food stamp programs—moves that have drawn both praise and sharp criticism.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended the bill, tweeting: “Anyone who votes AGAINST the One Big Beautiful Bill is voting AGAINST: No Tax on Tips, No Tax on Overtime, No Tax on Social Security.”
What’s Next?
With tensions high and time running out before Trump’s self-imposed July 4 deadline, the fate of the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” remains uncertain. Can Speaker Johnson rally the GOP, or will fiscal conservatives stand their ground?
As the nation watches this high-stakes political showdown, one thing is clear: Trump’s fiery rhetoric and the bill’s sweeping impact are ensuring this debate is far from over.
