• Vice President J.D. Vance on Monday staunchly defended the Trump administration’s handling of the Epstein files, confronting persistent questions about transparency amid renewed scrutiny of the disgraced financier’s legacy and alleged political entanglements.

CANTON, Ohio (TDR) — Vice President J.D. Vance, addressing reporters following a policy event touting the administration’s “big, beautiful bill,” rejected claims that the White House has obstructed the release of materials tied to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

“The president has been very clear. We’re not shielding anything,” Vance declared. “He’s been incredibly transparent about that stuff, but some of that stuff takes time.”

The remarks sought to tamp down lingering tensions within Trump’s base, many of whom continue to question why Epstein’s alleged network of accomplices remains shrouded in legal secrecy. The administration’s credibility was further tested after the FBI and Department of Justice issued a memorandum stating definitively that Epstein died by suicide in a Manhattan jail cell in 2019—conclusions that inflamed speculation and stoked public distrust.

According to reports, Vance played a behind-the-scenes role mediating between Attorney General Pam Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel, and Deputy Director Dan Bongino, who had reportedly considered resigning following the DOJ’s memo. The vice president remained publicly quiet during the immediate aftermath.

Several weeks on, however, media coverage—particularly from The New York Times and Wall Street Journal—has continued to examine President Donald Trump’s historical ties to Epstein. The president has denied the allegations and taken legal action against some of the coverage.

Casting Blame Across Administrations

Vance, shifting blame, noted that prior administrations failed to act with sufficient vigor.

“For four years, under Joe Biden’s DOJ, the media didn’t give a damn about the Epstein files,” he said, also criticizing the Bush and Obama years for neglecting to “fully investigate” the scandal.

Donald J. Trump, I’m telling you, he’s got nothing to hide,” Vance added.
