• House Oversight Chairman James Comer subpoenaed Jeffrey Epstein’s estate for unredacted documents and communications.
  • The move follows the DOJ’s release of tens of thousands of pages that Democrats say largely duplicated public records.
  • Former U.S. Attorney Alexander Acosta is scheduled for a September 19 interview as part of the investigation.

WASHINGTON, D.C., TDR — House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, a Kentucky Republican, announced Monday that the panel has issued a new subpoena for documents held by the estate of Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier whose death in federal custody in 2019 left lingering questions about his network and influence.

The committee’s latest demand for records comes after the Department of Justice began turning over files in response to an earlier subpoena. Federal and local authorities delivered more than 33,000 pages of materials last week, though Democrats on the committee said much of it consisted of already public information.

Comer’s Announcement

In a post on X, Comer declared: “I have issued a subpoena to the Epstein estate for documents & communications in its possession, custody, or control in unredacted form. Alexander Acosta, former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, will appear for a transcribed interview on September 19.”

Comer added that the panel is also accepting formal declarations under penalty of perjury from former Attorneys General Alberto Gonzales, Eric Holder, and Jeff Sessions, each swearing that they hold no relevant knowledge about the Epstein or Ghislaine Maxwell cases.

Democrats Push Back

Democratic lawmakers have criticized what they view as selective transparency. Congressman Robert Garcia of California wrote on X: “We reviewed 33,000 pages of documents related to the Epstein files — 97% of them were already public. It’s clear the White House cover-up continues. Pam Bondi could release the full Epstein files today, but she refuses to do so. What are they hiding?”

The remark underscores broader Democratic claims that the administration’s promises of openness are undermined by heavy redaction and duplication.

Republican Pressure

Republicans argue the opposite. Congressman Thomas Massie of Kentucky said earlier this month: “Three decades of coverups, failures, and payoffs. Read this timeline and consider the magnitude of relevant evidence that hasn’t been released. Our bill to release the Epstein files can bring justice, transparency, & closure. Ask your congressman to sign the discharge petition.”

The bipartisan tension reflects the extraordinary sensitivity surrounding Epstein’s records. With prior disclosures sparking global attention, the Oversight Committee’s next steps will determine how much of the material ultimately becomes public.

Next Steps

While thousands of pages have been delivered, the scope of any new material from the Epstein estate remains uncertain. Legal experts say disputes over redactions and privacy protections are likely to continue, particularly where victims’ identities and sensitive financial records are concerned.

Former federal prosecutor Ed Martin, who now leads the Justice Department’s Weaponization Working Group, has already warned that incomplete disclosures could fuel public distrust. “The American people want full transparency in the Epstein case,” he said in July.

The committee’s timeline for releasing documents is still unclear. But Comer has signaled his intent to proceed quickly, stressing both transparency and caution regarding victim protection.

Whether this latest subpoena brings new revelations or another round of political stalemate remains to be seen.
