WASHINGTON, D.C. (TDR) — Convicted child sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell is reportedly being cleared to leave prison on work release after her transfer to a minimum-security facility in Texas.
Security Score and Waiver
Podcast host Allison Gill obtained documents showing Maxwell was assigned a 7-point base security score — the highest possible due to her sex offender classification. Despite a total score of 27 qualifying her for minimum security, BOP policy prohibits such placement without waiving the Public Safety Factor. According to Gill, that waiver was granted, enabling her move.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse pressed the Bureau of Prisons in a formal letter about potential preferential treatment, noting Maxwell reportedly met with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche — formerly Donald Trump’s personal attorney — before her transfer. Whitehouse demanded details on how her status was downgraded.
Work Release Parallels to Epstein
Gill said Maxwell’s custody status is now “OUT,” allowing her to work outside prison walls — a rare privilege for sex offenders. She drew parallels to Jeffrey Epstein, who received similar work release under a controversial plea deal negotiated by Alan Dershowitz and approved by Alex Acosta during the Bush and Trump administrations.
Is Maxwell’s case proof that high-profile sex offenders play by a different set of rules?
