- A government surplus auction company will return up to $350 million in unused border wall materials to the U.S.
- The move follows a court ruling blocking President Biden from selling wall components.
- President Trump vows to resume construction in Texas, California, and Arizona.
WASHINGTON, D.C. (TDR) — A government surplus auction company that acquired up to $350 million worth of unused construction materials from President Donald Trump’s unfinished wall along the U.S.-Mexico border has agreed to return them to the U.S. government under a recently reached deal.
GovPlanet, which was set to sell unused steel panels, bollards, and concrete after President Joe Biden halted wall construction in 2021, will now transfer the materials back to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for pennies on the dollar. DHS sources told NewsNation the arrangement was finalized last week, with a third-party contractor expected to take control of the components within 90 days.
President Trump, speaking Wednesday, confirmed that his administration intends to “take the wall back” and resume building in key sectors. “They stole the wall from us,” Trump told reporters during a news conference at the Kennedy Center. “Biden sold it for pennies on the dollar—three cents, four cents. This is expensive stuff.”

The president pinned the disposal of materials squarely on Biden, calling it “a disgrace” and emphasizing that hundreds of miles of the wall had been prepared for installation before the sell-off.
A federal judge in Texas in January barred the Biden administration from selling the wall components or reallocating the funds to Congress for other purposes. Following that ruling, GovPlanet removed the listings from its site and entered into the now-public agreement to return the supplies at cost “to help protect millions of taxpayer dollars.”
“We are expediting the transfer of these materials to support border protection plans,” GovPlanet said in a statement. “We value our longstanding partnership with the U.S. government and will continue to support America’s federal agencies.”
Once collected, the unused materials will be deployed in Texas and California, with $46.5 billion in Trump’s funding bill allocated for completion. Arizona’s high-traffic smuggling corridors, including Yuma and Lukeville, are also slated for renewed construction. The Pentagon has shifted $200 million in defense funds for 20 new miles of 30-foot barriers in the state.

Arizona faces unique restrictions due to Native American reservations along the border, limiting where physical barriers can be installed. This has prompted increased reliance on surveillance technology and tactical enforcement.
In Texas, Rep. Tony Gonzales told NewsNation the return of the wall is a major win for security. The Del Rio Sector will soon see five new high-tech surveillance towers to help Border Patrol track and intercept migrant getaways.
“You need a wall. You need technology,” Gonzales said. “These towers work. This new technology works, especially in remote areas. And you need boots on the ground.”
The congressman stressed that local law enforcement partnerships remain critical. “You need Border Patrol, local law enforcement, everybody working together,” he added.

With billions in fresh funding, court authority to reclaim the materials, and GovPlanet’s cooperation, Trump’s border wall revival appears ready to accelerate—setting the stage for a high-profile test of his immigration agenda ahead of the 2026 midterms.
Will the return of these wall materials jumpstart border security or reignite partisan battles over immigration?
