WASHINGTON, D.C. (TDR) — Rep. Jasmine Crockett has called out President Donald Trump for repeatedly insulting her and other women of color, saying the president seems “obsessed” with her and that he may have been “hurt” by a Black woman from his past. During an interview on CNN’s The Source with Kaitlan Collins, the Texas congresswoman responded to Trump‘s latest comments made aboard Air Force One.

Earlier Monday, Trump had mocked both Crockett and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, calling them “low-IQ” people and questioning their intelligence. “They have Jasmine Crockett, a low-IQ person. They have uh… AOC’s low IQ,” Trump said while answering unrelated questions about whether he’d seek a third term. “You give her an IQ test… have her pass, like the exams that I decided to take when I was at Walter Reed.” The president boasted about his performance on cognitive tests, describing them as “very hard” and “really aptitude tests, I guess, in a certain way.”
Sharp rebuttal
Crockett fired back, saying Trump “doesn’t even know what a low IQ is” and argued that his remarks show a deeper issue with women of color. “I’m waiting on a reporter — maybe it’ll be you, Kaitlan — to finally ask him what is his IQ? Because he is constantly talking about — he doesn’t even know which scores are low,” Crockett said. “And I can guarantee you that whatever score, if he’s taken one anytime recently, I’m sure that his qualifies as low.” The 44-year-old attorney continued: “Listen, he’s never been known to be an Einstein. This is not a guy who got in on merit when it came to going to college. This is someone who, but for him being born with a silver spoon, probably wouldn’t have gotten into anybody’s institution — unlike me.”
Pattern of obsession
Crockett said Trump‘s constant focus on her and other female lawmakers shows insecurity and reveals troubling patterns. “And I wish people would look at the fact that you have a president of the United States who consistently is obsessing over two women of color that are members of the House,” Crockett said. “You are the president. You have a lot more power than we do. But obviously, you consistently feel threatened. And that is why we have seen the attacks on Black women in general from this administration.” The congresswoman then offered a provocative theory about the president’s behavior. “I don’t know what Black woman hurt him in his past, honey, but it is really taking him through it,” she told Collins.
Ocasio-Cortez responds
Ocasio-Cortez also shot back at the president in a post on X, mockingly asking him about the details of his test at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. “Out of curiosity, did those doctors ask you to draw a clock by any chance? Was that part hard for you, too?” she wrote. The New York congresswoman has been a frequent target of Trump‘s ire alongside Crockett, with both women representing younger, more progressive voices in the Democratic Party.

Trump has repeatedly accused Crockett of having a “low IQ” throughout his second term. Crockett previously responded to one of his remarks in May, writing on X: “For you to be in charge of the WHOLE country, you sure do have my name in your mouth a lot. Every time you say my name, you’re reminding the world that you’re terrified of smart, bold Black women telling the truth and holding you accountable.” American studies professor Dana Winter told HuffPost that Trump‘s insults represent “racism and misogyny” aimed at his followers. “When Trump insults Crockett and AOC, he is pitching racism and misogyny to his followers — once again encouraging them to give into their basest impulses,” Winter said. She added that his “repetitious targeting of Jasmine Crockett and AOC suggests that he is frequently irritated by their dazzling intelligence and rhetorical skill.”
Focus on governing urged
Crockett concluded her CNN interview by urging Trump to focus on his presidential responsibilities instead of launching personal attacks. “I really wish, for the sake of this country and honestly for the sake of the world, that he would focus on his real job and stop worrying about me,” Crockett said. “My constituents will decide whether I’m doing my job well enough. He can’t hire me or fire me, unfortunately for him.”
Does Trump’s pattern of attacking women of color in Congress reveal deeper insecurities about his own leadership abilities?
