- Former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer stunned Fox News anchor John Roberts by declaring Trump won’t win Nobel Prize
- Fleischer called the award “useless for generations” and dismissed it as the “Democratic Peace Prize” during Thursday’s America Reports
- The exchange came after Roberts played a clip of Senator John Fetterman supporting a Nobel Peace Prize for Trump
NEW YORK, N.Y. (TDR) — Former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer, 64, stunned Fox News anchor John Roberts as he said Trump wouldn’t win the prize despite his role in finding a deal between Israel and Hamas, to bring an end to suffering in Gaza.
The discussion came during Thursday night’s episode of America Reports, with the TV host playing a clip of Senator John Fetterman supporting a Nobel Peace Prize for Trump. Roberts then turned to Fleischer, who served as press secretary under President George W. Bush, to ask what it would say if Trump did not receive the honor for brokering the Israel-Hamas ceasefire.

Fleischer’s response was unexpectedly harsh. “I’m sorry to put it so bluntly, but who cares?” he said. “The Nobel Peace Prize has been useless for generations. Ever since they gave Barack Obama the Nobel Peace Prize for doing nothing, it is the Democratic Peace Prize. It is the liberal socialists of Europe Peace Prize. It has nothing to do with actually solving problems or getting things done, outside of the scientific realm where they do good work.”
The former press secretary continued his criticism, arguing the award committee is “too captive of the old think” to recognize Trump’s diplomatic achievements. He emphasized that what made the Israel-Hamas agreement possible was the fact that Trump and Steve Witkoff are outsiders, not establishment figures.
Roberts pushed back gently, noting Trump would likely care about winning the award. “I don’t want to dispute you, Ari, but I think President Trump would care if he were awarded it,” Roberts said with a laugh.
Fleischer stands firm on prediction
Undeterred, Fleischer doubled down on his position. “He won’t get it,” the former press secretary insisted. When Roberts asked for confirmation, Fleischer was emphatic: “They will never do it. They won’t give it — they are too captive of the old think.” The Fox News anchor could only respond with a stunned “Wow. All right, well we’ll be watching and we’ll see.”

The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded Friday morning to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, confirming Fleischer’s prediction. She won recognition as a woman “who keeps the flame of democracy burning amid a growing darkness,” according to the Nobel Committee.
Trump’s Nobel aspirations
Trump has long coveted the Nobel Peace Prize and multiple Republican lawmakers have nominated him for the honor. Rep. Claudia Tenney nominated Trump along with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for their work on the 2020 Abraham Accords. International support came from Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet after separate U.S.-brokered peace agreements.
According to the Nobel Committee, 338 candidates were nominated this year, including 244 individuals and 94 organizations. The deadline for nominations was Jan. 31, meaning Trump could be considered again next year if the Israel-Hamas ceasefire holds. The New York Times’ David E. Sanger argued Trump’s role in securing the deal could be his “pathway to the Nobel Peace Prize” and represents the biggest diplomatic accomplishment of his second term.
Fetterman told Fox News that Trump deserves the prize “if this sticks,” adding that “the whole point of having a Nobel Peace Prize is for ending wars and promoting peace.” The Pennsylvania Democrat made his comments during an appearance on America’s Newsroom following Trump’s announcement of the ceasefire agreement.
Does political bias influence Nobel Peace Prize selections, or do critics overstate the committee’s ideological leanings?
