• Conservative commentator Candace Owens directly accused President Donald Trump and his administration of orchestrating the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk in a video posted Wednesday.
  • Owens claimed Trump and administration officials turned their backs on Kirk and suggested the creation of Charlie Kirk Day proves government involvement, stating when they give you a holiday, they definitely killed you.
  • The conspiracy theory comes as Owens feels excluded from Kirk memorial events and his organization’s future, attributing the snub to her criticism of U.S. support for Israel.

LOS ANGELES (TDR)Candace Owens escalated her conspiracy theories surrounding Charlie Kirk‘s death to shocking new heights Wednesday, directly accusing President Trump and his administration of orchestrating the assassination of the Turning Point USA founder. In a video that quickly went viral, the former conservative darling suggested Kirk was murdered by the very people he dedicated his life to supporting, offering no evidence beyond her claim that she “just knows.”

Holiday as proof of murder

In the emotional yet conspiratorial video, Owens told her millions of followers that Kirk’s dedication to Trump meant nothing in the end. She accused the administration of abandoning Kirk after his death, using him and then discarding him when he no longer served their purposes.

He gave so much of his life to Trump and to politics, and they were just like NOPE. That’s it.

Owens then made an even more explosive claim, linking government honors to sinister motives. Referencing the Senate’s passage of a resolution making October 14 Charlie Kirk Day, led by Senator Rick Scott, she suggested such tributes are evidence of foul play.

“As soon as they give you a holiday, they definitely killed you. There’s no question — they killed you,” Owens said, appearing to reference similar conspiracy theories about Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights leaders who received posthumous honors.

Kirk shot during campus event

Kirk, 31, was shot and killed September 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University. A 22-year-old man named Tyler Robinson confessed to the killing and faces multiple charges including aggravated murder. Utah prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

Despite the confession and ongoing prosecution, Owens has consistently claimed there’s more to the story. She has previously accused Israeli donors, the FBI, and various political figures of involvement in Kirk’s death, often pointing to his alleged shifting stance on Israel as motive.

Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, accepted a posthumous Presidential Medal of Freedom from Trump at the White House following her husband’s death. She has since been named Kirk’s successor at Turning Point USA, though she has not publicly endorsed any of Owens’ theories.

Owens feels excluded from Kirk legacy

The conspiracy theories appear intertwined with Owens’ personal grievances about being shut out from Kirk memorial events and Turning Point USA’s future direction. The former Turning Point communications director was not invited to speak at Kirk’s massive Arizona memorial service, did not join the revival of his podcast, and has been excluded from the speaking tour established in his honor.

Owens attributes this exclusion to her vocal criticism of U.S. support for Israel, claiming Kirk was beginning to share her views before his death. She has posted screenshots of alleged messages from Kirk expressing concerns about pressure from Israeli donors, though these claims remain unverified.

The conservative commentator has also threatened to violate a gag order in the Robinson case, despite the order not actually applying to her as an outside commentator. She stated on social media that she plans to “violate it on the world’s behalf.”

Conservative backlash intensifies

Fellow conservatives have condemned Owens’ increasingly outlandish theories. Laura Loomer called her claims “absolutely unhinged,” while other right-wing figures have accused her of dishonoring Kirk’s memory and destroying her own credibility.

Ian Miles Cheong and other conservative commentators have criticized those who remain silent in the face of Owens’ conspiracy theories, calling it cowardice. The backlash has revealed deep divisions within MAGA circles about Kirk’s legacy and the movement’s future direction.

Kirk was arguably the most influential conservative figure outside of Trump himself, credited with bringing young voters into the MAGA movement and helping secure Arizona in the 2024 election. His death has left a power vacuum that multiple factions are now competing to fill, with Owens positioning herself as a truth-teller fighting powerful interests.

Has Candace Owens permanently damaged her credibility with increasingly baseless conspiracy theories about Charlie Kirk’s assassination?
