- Sister told police Beverley punched her in left eye
- Former player released on $40,000 bond, denies allegations
ROSHARON, Texas (TDR) — Former NBA guard Patrick Beverley was arrested Friday on felony assault charges after his 15-year-old sister alleged he choked her for up to 30 seconds and punched her in the face during a family confrontation at their mother’s home, according to court documents.
Beverley, 37, was taken into custody by the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Department and charged with assault family violence/household impeding breath, a third-degree felony punishable by two to 10 years in prison. He was released later that day on $40,000 bail.
Sister details alleged assault
According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by multiple outlets, the incident occurred November 14 after Beverley’s sister left home without permission to visit her 18-year-old boyfriend. When she returned, her mother Lisa allegedly instructed her to call the boyfriend back to the house, then contacted Patrick to come to the residence.

The sister told police Beverley “grabbed her by her neck with both hands, and picked her up off the ground, by having her feet come up from the floor,” according to the affidavit. She claimed he squeezed her neck for 20 to 30 seconds, causing pain and making it difficult to breathe.
[Beverley’s sister] stated Beverley grabbed her by her neck with both hands, and picked her up off the ground, by having her feet come up from the floor, causing her to feel pain and becoming unable to breathe.
Court documents state Beverley allegedly moved his sister from one room to another while still holding her neck, then “began to slam her body against the walls of the residence.” The sister told investigators she attempted to loosen her brother’s grip by grabbing his wrists.

The affidavit states Beverley allegedly laid his sister on a sofa, stood on top of her, and “punched her approximately one time on her left eye with a closed fist.” The sister claimed Beverley told her during the incident that “he will be the family relative to kill her.”
Officers documented visible markings on the sister’s neck and petechiae—small red or purple spots in the whites of her eyes consistent with pressure applied to the neck. The sister’s boyfriend called police for assistance after being told to leave the property.
Attorney disputes allegations
Beverley posted on social media following his arrest: “Please don’t believe everything you see on the internet. Hope all is well Luv.” His attorney Letitia Quinones-Hollins issued a statement defending the former player.
“Patrick Beverley has no criminal record. He cares deeply about his little sister—a young lady, a minor,” Quinones-Hollins said in a statement to TMZ. “Given that, when he unexpectedly found her alone in the home with an 18-year-old man in the middle of the night, he was understandably concerned, as any brother would be about his sister.”
The attorney added: “We don’t believe what followed happened the way it’s been described and we look forward to the opportunity to address that in court.”
Recent controversies
Beverley last played in the NBA for the Milwaukee Bucks in May 2024. He was suspended four games by the league after throwing a basketball at fans during a playoff game against the Indiana Pacers. The affected fans filed a lawsuit claiming physical pain, emotional distress and medical expenses.
He later played for Hapoel Tel Aviv in the Israeli Basketball Premier League before being suspended in February 2025. Beverley also drew criticism for kicking an ESPN reporter out of a media session for not being subscribed to his podcast.
