- Mark Epstein claims Winchester, Virginia facility sanitizing documents before release
- Allegations surface days before House voted 427-1 to release files
- Trump signed Epstein Files Transparency Act on November 19
WASHINGTON, D.C. (TDR) — Mark Epstein, brother of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, has alleged that government files related to his late brother are being edited at a facility in Winchester, Virginia, to remove Republican names before their public release.
In a NewsNation interview Monday, Mark Epstein claimed he received information from “a pretty good source” about the alleged document manipulation, just days before Congress voted overwhelmingly to compel the Justice Department to release all files related to his brother’s crimes and connections.
“I’ve been recently told, the reason they’re going to be releasing the files and the reason for the flip is that they’re sabotaging these files,” Mark Epstein told NewsNation host Chris Cuomo. “There’s a facility in Winchester, Virginia, where they’re scrubbing the files to take Republican names out.”

The allegations came amid a dramatic political shift on the Epstein files issue. President Donald Trump, who had previously opposed releasing the documents, reversed course and encouraged House Republicans to support the measure. The House voted 427-1 on Tuesday to pass the Epstein Files Transparency Act, with Rep. Clay Higgins of Louisiana casting the only dissenting vote.
“The reason they’re going to be releasing the files and the reason for the flip is that they’re sabotaging these files.”
The Senate unanimously approved the legislation hours later through unanimous consent, and Trump signed the bill into law Wednesday. The legislation requires Attorney General Pam Bondi to release all unclassified records, documents and investigative materials related to Jeffrey Epstein and his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell within 30 days.
Mark Epstein did not provide publicly verifiable evidence to support his allegations about the Winchester facility, nor did he identify his source. As of Wednesday, no federal agency has confirmed or denied the existence of a document-editing facility in Winchester.

During the interview, Mark Epstein also alleged that his brother possessed compromising information about Trump dating to 2016, when Trump was running for his first presidential term. He claimed Jeffrey Epstein told him the information was damaging enough to “cancel the election” but chose not to release it.
“Jeffrey definitely had dirt on Trump,” Mark Epstein said. “He didn’t tell me what he knew, but Jeffrey definitely had dirt on Trump.”
Trump has repeatedly denied any knowledge of Jeffrey Epstein’s criminal activities. The White House has not responded to Mark Epstein’s specific allegations about document sanitization or the Winchester facility claim.
File release requirements
The Epstein Files Transparency Act mandates comprehensive disclosure of Justice Department records. The legislation requires release of all documents related to Jeffrey Epstein and Maxwell, flight logs and travel records, individuals and entities connected to Epstein’s criminal activities, and internal Justice Department communications regarding investigation decisions.
The law explicitly prohibits withholding information based on “embarrassment, reputational harm, or political sensitivity, including to any government official, public figure, or foreign dignitary.” However, the attorney general may redact information identifying victims or material that would jeopardize active federal investigations.
The House Oversight Committee previously received more than 33,000 pages of Epstein-related documents from the Justice Department in September, though Rep. Robert Garcia of California said the vast majority were already public and only 3% contained new information.
Political fallout continues
Mark Epstein also accused FBI Director Kash Patel of participating in a cover-up regarding his brother’s 2019 death in a Manhattan jail cell, which was officially ruled a suicide. “He was the one who said in his testimony ‘you know a suicide when you see one,'” Mark Epstein said. “I had a laugh.”
Several Epstein abuse survivors attended Tuesday’s House vote and embraced one another as the final tally was announced. The survivors had spent months advocating for transparency and accountability regarding Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes and his connections to powerful figures in politics, business and entertainment.
Speaker Mike Johnson criticized the bill’s language even as he voted for it, calling it a “political exercise” with “serious deficiencies.” Johnson had previously attempted to prevent the vote but was forced to bring the measure to the floor after a discharge petition secured 218 signatures.
Will the 30-day release deadline reveal the full scope of Jeffrey Epstein’s connections, or will redactions and withheld documents leave critical questions unanswered?
