NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (TDR) — A report of someone stunt driving at night in a church parking lot grew even stranger when officers discovered the driver wasn’t wearing pants, according to investigators in South Carolina’s Lowcountry.

Brandon Jameil Jordan, 36, of North Charleston, was arrested Sunday night after allegedly performing “doughnuts” while nearly naked in a church parking lot. The bizarre incident has drawn attention to ongoing problems with illegal car meets and reckless driving in the area.

Beer cans and tire marks lead police to suspect

Around 10:45 p.m. on Nov. 2, officers with the North Charleston Police Department responded to a report of a nude man driving recklessly on Nesbitt Avenue. When they arrived, officers found empty beer cans and tire marks consistent with a vehicle spinning in circles in a church parking lot, according to a Nov. 3 news release.

While patrolling the area, officers received another call about a car stopped in the roadway on James Bell Drive with its horn blaring and traffic blocked. The driver, identified as Jordan, was found wearing only underwear and a tank top, with a blanket or robe wrapped around him.

Drug charges compound reckless driving offense

Officers reported that Jordan smelled strongly of alcohol. A search of his vehicle turned up a scale and a white powder that tested presumptive for crack cocaine, police said.

Jordan was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine base, pointing and presenting a firearm, and malicious injury to real property. He was also served with outstanding warrants for pointing and presenting a firearm and malicious damage to property from previous incidents.

The suspect was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center following his arrest. Court records indicate Jordan faces multiple felony charges that could result in significant prison time if convicted.

The incident highlights an ongoing problem in North Charleston, where illegal car meets have become increasingly common. In October, the North Charleston Police Department issued a warning about unauthorized gatherings that often lead to dangerous activities such as street racing and stunt driving.

“These unauthorized gatherings often result in trespassing, noise disturbances, and reckless driving, posing a threat to public safety,” the agency said in a statement. The department noted that such meets are typically organized through social media and can result in criminal charges for participants.

Church parking lots have become frequent targets for these activities due to their large, open spaces and limited overnight security. Property owners across the region have struggled to prevent the gatherings, which often occur late at night when businesses are closed.

Community safety concerns mount

Trespassing, in particular, is a criminal offense that can lead to fines and even imprisonment. Law enforcement officials emphasize the importance of respecting private property and adhering to local laws and regulations.

The North Charleston Police Department has encouraged residents to explore alternative, safe and legal ways to engage in automotive enthusiast activities. Officials stress that while car culture has legitimate expressions, reckless and illegal behavior endangers public safety.

Should churches and businesses face liability for illegal activities occurring on their property, or does responsibility rest solely with those committing the offenses?
