• Nick Fuentes declares he would vote for Newsom “100 times over” because Vance is “fat subhuman”
  • Streamer Clavicular tells Michael Knowles that Newsom will win 2028 based purely on looks
  • Comments reveal deepening fractures within far-right movement and Republican coalition heading into 2028

WASHINGTON, DC (TDR) — White nationalist Nick Fuentes and controversial streamer Clavicular ignited Republican infighting this weekend by announcing they would vote for California Governor Gavin Newsom over Vice President JD Vance in 2028, basing their shocking declarations entirely on physical appearance rather than policy positions. The statements have exposed deepening fractures within the Republican coalition as the party looks toward the next presidential cycle.

Fuentes, who has regularly attacked Vance with racist remarks about his wife and family, posted to social media Sunday declaring Vance a “fat subhuman” while praising Newsom’s physical appearance. The white supremacist influencer wrote he would vote for the Democratic governor “100 times over just because he’s handsome,” openly mocking party loyalty expectations.

Appearance Over Policy Becomes Campaign Issue

The comments originated from an interview between 20-year-old streamer Braden Peters, known online as Clavicular, and conservative commentator Michael Knowles on The Daily Wire. When Knowles asked about the 2028 election, Peters predicted Newsom would defeat Vance because “JD Vance is subhuman and Gavin Newsom mogs.”

“He’s got a very short total facial width-to-height ratio. He’s obese, very recessed side profile, whereas Newsom is like 6’3″ chad,” Peters told Knowles, using internet slang meaning to outshine or dominate someone based on looks.

When Knowles pushed back, noting Vance stands around 6’2″ or 6’3″, Peters insisted “Gavin Newsom obviously mogs him to death.” Asked directly whether he preferred Newsom to the sitting vice president, Peters said he would vote for the Democrat “100 times over” based purely on physical appearance.

Racist Attacks Target Vance Family

Fellow influencer SNEAKO defended Clavicular’s comments while launching racist attacks against Vance’s wife Usha and their children. The streamer declared Vance “subhuman” while making vulgar statements about the vice president’s family that echoed ethno-nationalist sentiments.

The attacks underscore ongoing tensions within the MAGA movement regarding Vance’s marriage to Usha, the daughter of Indian immigrants. Some far-right figures have made Vance’s interfaith marriage a focal point of criticism, revealing racial tensions within the broader conservative coalition.

The controversy erupted weeks after Vance argued at Turning Point USA that MAGA should not impose “purity tests,” comments made amid public disputes between Ben Shapiro and Tucker Carlson over tolerating antisemitism within the movement.

Shapiro has described Fuentes as a “Hitler apologist, Nazi-loving, anti-American piece of refuse.” Yet Fuentes maintains significant influence among young right-wing audiences, with recent posts garnering millions of views.

“The groypers all hate JD Vance—the one Republican political leader who is by far the most tolerant toward and patient with them—because he is married to an Indian woman and not particularly attractive. I’m starting to think this is not a faction the GOP should actively court,” wrote Reason’s Robby Soave.

Podcaster Joe Rogan recently discussed Fuentes’ growing influence, noting the white nationalist “couldn’t have existed” 10 or 20 years ago but is now “super popular.”

Newsom Unlikely to Welcome Support

Governor Newsom would almost certainly reject support from far-right figures. Mia Bloom, a communications professor at Georgia State University, told Newsweek that “extremist movements cherry-pick what they like about a candidate. Their embrace of Newsom would be refuted by Governor Newsom.”

The California governor has cast himself as a staunch opponent of the Trump administration, recently adopting Trump-style social media tactics. Newsom has dubbed Vance “Just Dance Vance” while his press office has launched increasingly aggressive attacks on Republican leadership.

Fractures in Trump Coalition Deepen

The episode reveals growing fractures within the coalition that elected Donald Trump in 2024. Fuentes previously broke with Trump and did not endorse him in 2024 despite dining with the president at Mar-a-Lago in 2022.

Thomas Main, a professor at the Marxe School of Public and International Affairs, warned that Fuentes promotes “a radical form of illiberalism that rejects the idea that all people are created equal.”

The 2028 election remains years away. Early polling shows Vance and Newsom running neck-and-neck in hypothetical matchups.

Can Republicans maintain coalition unity when prominent far-right voices openly declare support for Democrats based purely on physical appearance and racial preferences?
