NEW YORK, NY (TDR) — Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars captured the top song of 2025 as their duet “Die With a Smile” secured the number one position on Billboard’s year-end Hot 100 chart. The emotional ballad dominated streaming platforms and radio airplay throughout the year, establishing multiple records in its unprecedented chart run.
The collaboration spent 51 weeks in the top 10 and 60 total weeks on the Hot 100, both records for a co-billed duet between a female and male artist in the chart’s history. The song led the weekly Hot 100 for five weeks beginning in January 2025 after climbing to number one in its 20th week on the chart.

“Die With a Smile” debuted at number three on the Hot 100 in late August 2024 following its surprise release. The track spent four weeks at number two in November before being swept out of the top 10 by the annual influx of holiday songs.
When Christmas music vacated the charts in January 2025, the duet surged from number 17 to claim the top spot, marking the slowest climb to number one since Teddy Swims “Lose Control” took 32 weeks to reach the summit in March 2024.
The song’s commercial success extended beyond Billboard charts. It became the longest-reigning daily number one in Spotify history and the platform’s most-streamed song of 2025. The track also achieved the fastest ascent to 3 billion streams in Spotify history.
Artist Achievements
For Gaga, “Die With a Smile” marks her sixth Hot 100 number one and her first year-end chart topper. Her previous closest finish came in 2009 when “Poker Face” ended the year at number two and “Just Dance” featuring Colby O’Donis finished at number three.

The achievement gives Gaga a nearly 16-year career span of topping the Hot 100, making her only the third artist alongside Janet Jackson and Michael Jackson to notch multiple number ones across such an extended period.
Mars adds his second year-end Hot 100 victory, following Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk!” which featured Mars and finished at number one for 2015. The song marks Mars’ ninth Hot 100 chart-topper overall.
Both artists co-wrote and co-produced “Die With a Smile.” Gaga has now co-written all six of her Hot 100 number ones and co-produced three, while Mars has co-penned all nine of his leaders and likewise co-produced three.
Musical Impact and Global Success
The track features country influences and has drawn comparisons to Gaga’s album Joanne and her Oscar-winning “Shallow.” The collaboration brought together Gaga’s theatrical vocals with Mars’ silky delivery, expressing powerful longing and the urgency of love in the face of uncertainty.
The duet also topped year-end charts for Streaming Songs, Radio Songs, Pop Airplay and Adult Pop Airplay. It led the weekly streaming chart for three weeks and the radio chart for eight weeks. Globally, the song topped the Billboard Global 200 for 18 weeks and reached number one in more than 30 countries including Canada, New Zealand and the Netherlands.
Will this historic collaboration lead to more duets between these two powerhouse artists?
