- Rep. Greene says Trump grew “extremely angry” after she signed discharge petition for Epstein files
- President warned releasing documents would “hurt people,” congresswoman tells 60 Minutes
- Interview marks Greene’s first sit-down since announcing January resignation amid Trump fallout
WASHINGTON, D.C. (TDR) — Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) revealed Friday that President Donald Trump was “furious” with her over her advocacy for releasing federal investigation files on deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, disclosing that the president explicitly warned the documents’ release would “hurt people.”
The revelations came in a preview clip from Greene’s upcoming 60 Minutes interview with correspondent Lesley Stahl, set to air Sunday. The sit-down marks Greene’s first national interview since her surprise announcement last month that she would resign from Congress, with her final day set for January 5, 2026.

Trump Furious Over Epstein Files Petition
Greene was among only four House Republicans who signed onto a discharge petition forcing a vote on the Epstein Files Transparency Act, breaking with intense administration pressure to block the measure. The petition ultimately succeeded in compelling a House vote, and the legislation passed 427-1 before sailing through the Senate with unanimous consent.
In the interview clip, Greene described the private conversation with Trump about her decision. “We did talk about the Epstein files, and he was extremely angry at me that I had signed the discharge petition to release the files,” she told Stahl. When pressed on Trump’s specific response, Greene paused before answering.
“He said that it was going to hurt people.”

Despite the president’s anger, Greene remained steadfast in her position, framing her decision as advocacy for Epstein’s victims. “I fully believe that those women deserve everything they’re asking,” Greene stated. “They’re asking for all of it to come out. They deserve it. And he was furious with me.”
The congresswoman had previously appeared alongside alleged Epstein victims at press conferences on Capitol Hill, becoming an unlikely advocate for transparency in a case that has divided the Republican Party. Her advocacy drew sharp rebukes from Trump, who labeled calls for document release a “hoax” pushed by Democrats.
From Loyal Ally to ‘Traitor’
The Epstein files dispute marked the culmination of weeks of growing tension between Trump and one of his formerly most devoted supporters. After Greene signed the discharge petition, Trump rescinded his endorsement of the congresswoman, calling her “Wacky” and a “ranting lunatic” in a scathing Truth Social post.
Following Greene’s resignation announcement, Trump responded by calling her “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown” and claimed she quit due to “PLUMMETING Poll Numbers.” Greene fired back that she refused to be a “battered wife” hoping conditions would improve.
DOJ Faces December 19 Deadline
The Epstein Files Transparency Act, which Trump reluctantly signed into law on November 19, requires the Department of Justice to release all documents related to Epstein’s prosecution within 30 days. That deadline falls on December 19, 2025.
A bipartisan group of lawmakers, including the bill’s lead sponsors Reps. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and Ro Khanna (D-Calif.), have requested a briefing from Attorney General Pam Bondi on the department’s compliance efforts.
The law prohibits withholding information “on the basis of embarrassment, reputational harm, or political sensitivity, including to any government official, public figure, or foreign dignitary.”
As the December 19 deadline approaches, will the Justice Department deliver full transparency on Epstein—or will Trump’s concerns about “hurting people” influence what ultimately gets released?
