- Trump suggests DOJ should abandon Epstein file releases and focus on investigating alleged election fraud claims
- Justice Department announced discovery of more than one million additional documents requiring review
- President signed Epstein Files Transparency Act into law in November but now calls process a distraction
WASHINGTON, DC (TDR) — President Donald Trump on Friday urged the Department of Justice to abandon its review of Jeffrey Epstein-related documents and instead prioritize investigations into alleged election fraud, escalating tensions between the White House and federal investigators tasked with implementing transparency legislation he signed into law.
The president took to Truth Social after the Justice Department announced Wednesday it had uncovered more than one million additional documents potentially related to the deceased sex offender’s case, declaring the ongoing review process a “Democrat inspired Hoax.”
“Now 1,000,000 more pages on Epstein are found. DOJ is being forced to spend all of its time on this Democrat inspired Hoax. When do they say NO MORE, and work on Election Fraud etc.”

Trump’s Friday complaints represent a dramatic reversal from his position just weeks ago. In November, he signed the Epstein Files Transparency Act into law after initially opposing the bipartisan legislation. The act mandated the Justice Department release all unclassified records related to Epstein and his convicted accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell by December 19.
The Justice Department missed that deadline and has released documents in multiple tranches since, totaling tens of thousands of pages. Officials stated the newly discovered million-plus documents would require “a few more weeks” to review and redact victim information before public release.
Trump urged the department to selectively release names of Democrats allegedly associated with Epstein while halting further document processing. He wrote that investigators should “release all of their names, embarrass them, and get back to helping our Country.”
Documents Include Trump References
Recent document releases have included numerous references to Trump’s past associations with Epstein. Federal prosecutors’ 2020 emails revealed Trump flew on Epstein’s private plane at least eight times between 1993 and 1996, with Maxwell present on at least four flights.

The Justice Department stated some released materials contained “untrue and sensationalist claims made against President Trump that were submitted to the FBI right before the 2020 election.” Officials declared one purported letter from Epstein containing crude references to Trump as “fake” based on handwriting analysis and other inconsistencies.
“To be clear: the claims are unfounded and false, and if they had a shred of credibility, they certainly would have been weaponized against President Trump already.”
Authorities have never accused Trump of wrongdoing or charged him with crimes connected to Epstein’s sex trafficking operation. Trump has denied any involvement and stated he ended his friendship with Epstein in the early 2000s because he was a “creep.”
Congressional Pressure Mounts
Twelve senators led by Richard Blumenthal, Lisa Murkowski, and Jeff Merkley sent a letter to DOJ Acting Inspector General Don Berthiaume alleging the department violated the transparency law. The lawmakers criticized heavy redactions in released documents and questioned whether the department properly applied limited exceptions permitted under the act.
Over a dozen Epstein survivors issued statements Monday condemning initial document releases as “riddled with abnormal and extreme redactions with no explanation.” The groups called for comprehensive transparency and accountability regarding individuals who enabled Epstein’s criminal enterprise.
White House frustration has mounted over the ongoing document releases, with aides attempting to shift public attention to other policy priorities. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized Trump’s focus on economic achievements and border security rather than engaging extensively on Epstein-related questions.
The Justice Department stated it remains committed to “fully comply with federal law and President Trump’s direction to release the files” while protecting victim identities through legally required redactions. Officials indicated lawyers are “working around the clock” to process the massive volume of newly discovered material.
Should the Justice Department continue releasing Epstein documents as mandated by law Trump signed, or pivot to investigating unsubstantiated election fraud claims?
