• Carlson asks why conservatives lack empathy for Renee Good shooting
  • Newsletter references liberals celebrating Charlie Kirk assassination
  • Violence around world desensitizing Americans to violence at home, he argues

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (TDR) — Tucker Carlson criticized conservative reactions to the fatal ICE shooting of a 37-year-old mother in Minneapolis, arguing Americans have become “desensitized” to violence in a newsletter sent to his network subscribers this week.

“How come so few conservatives are viewing this story through a human lens?” Carlson wrote, questioning why many on the right defended the immigration enforcement operation that resulted in Renee Nicole Good’s death Wednesday.

“A woman got shot in the face.”

The Tucker Carlson Network founder’s remarks stand in stark contrast to the Trump administration’s defense of the shooting and many conservative commentators who characterized Good as a threat to law enforcement.

Comparing Political Violence Across Spectrum

Carlson’s newsletter referenced the September assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, drawing a parallel between liberal reactions to that killing and current conservative responses to Good’s shooting.

“Say, when something similar, like the killing of Charlie Kirk, happens on the other side, did many on the left celebrate because they thought his political positions were wrong? We have a guess.”

Kirk, the 31-year-old co-founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10, 2025, while speaking at a campus debate event. Tyler James Robinson, 22, faces aggravated murder charges in the assassination.

Some left-wing commentators and social media users celebrated Kirk’s death, leading to widespread employee terminations and criticism from free speech advocates. The comparison suggests Carlson sees similar callousness in conservative reactions to Good’s killing.

“Violence around the world is desensitizing Americans to violence at home.”

Details of Minneapolis Shooting

Renee Good was shot and killed Wednesday by ICE agent Jonathan Ross during the second day of what Department of Homeland Security called the largest immigration enforcement operation in history, with 2,000 agents deployed to the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area.

DHS officials and President Donald Trump defended the shooting, claiming Ross acted in self-defense when Good attempted to run him over with her vehicle. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem characterized Good’s actions as “an act of domestic terrorism.”

However, multiple videos of the incident and eyewitness accounts have challenged the federal narrative. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey called the self-defense claim “bullshit” after reviewing footage.

“Having seen the video myself, I want to tell everybody directly that is bullshit. To ICE, get the fuck out of Minneapolis.”

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said federal officials including Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Noem made statements that are “verifiably false, verifiably inaccurate.”

Conservative Defense of Federal Operations

The White House and conservative lawmakers have largely defended ICE operations in Minneapolis. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt characterized the shooting as part of a “sinister left wing movement” to attack the administration’s immigration crackdown.

“They don’t want our border secured or criminal illegal aliens being removed. As a result, Democrats are impeding immigration enforcement operations daily, creating extremely heightened and dangerous circumstances.”

Vance said the shooting was justified and Good was a “victim of left-wing ideology,” adding he could “believe that her death is a tragedy while also recognizing that it is a tragedy of her own making.”

Attorney General Pam Bondi warned Minnesotans to steer clear of federal agents, saying anyone obstructing operations would be arrested and prosecuted.

Protests and Investigation Disputes

Thousands protested in Minneapolis following the shooting, with additional demonstrations in Chicago, New York, Boston, Portland and Washington, D.C. Minneapolis Public Schools canceled classes for the remainder of the week citing safety concerns.

The FBI took sole control of the shooting investigation, reversing an earlier agreement with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for a joint probe. Minnesota’s Public Safety Commissioner said continuing a local investigation would be “extremely difficult, if not impossible” without federal cooperation.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty created a public website for evidence submission, saying her office has “no preconceived opinion” on charges but cannot make a determination without a thorough investigation.

Good was a poet and writer who lived in Minneapolis with her wife and six-year-old child. She was a U.S. citizen from Colorado Springs who had previously won Old Dominion University’s Academy of American Poets Prize.

As political polarization deepens following violent incidents on both sides of the spectrum, will Carlson’s call for empathy across partisan lines resonate with conservatives defending federal immigration enforcement?
