- Viral rap sheet shows wrong birth year and lacks official case numbers or documentation
- Public record searches across three states found no criminal charges beyond 2012 traffic ticket
- X’s community notes and fact-checkers debunk false claims as Good’s family mourns
MINNEAPOLIS, MN (TDR) — Social media accounts have circulated fabricated arrest records claiming Renee Nicole Good had an extensive criminal history, promoting false information about the 37-year-old mother of three who was fatally shot by an ICE agent during a federal immigration enforcement operation.
The viral rap sheet circulating across X, Facebook and other platforms alleges Good faced charges including child endangerment, battery of police officers, and parole violations. However, multiple fact-checking organizations and public record searches have confirmed the document is fabricated or refers to a different person entirely.
“You idiots on the left really need to pick your martyrs better. Renee Good has one hell of a rap sheet,” read one widely shared post on X that included the fake arrest record.

The fraudulent document contains several clear indicators it does not belong to Good. Most notably, the rap sheet lists a birth year of 1980, which would make the person 45 years old, while Good was 37 at the time of her death on January 7.
Limitless Media conducted comprehensive searches of criminal records under the names Renee Good, Renee Sheppard, and Renee Macklin with Good’s actual birthdate of April 2, 1988, across Colorado, Minnesota, and Missouri. The searches found no arrest records, citations, or criminal charges in any state.
The only official record discovered was a 2012 traffic ticket and a Missouri name-change filing, according to fact-checkers. The fabricated rap sheet notably lacks case numbers, jurisdiction information, or any official law enforcement documentation that authentic records would contain.
AI Confirms Records Belong to Different Person
X’s AI assistant Grok fact-checked the circulating image, determining it “appears to show records for a different Nicole Renee Good (DOB 1980, inconsistent age).” The AI noted that the Renee Nicole Good killed by ICE “had no significant criminal history beyond a 2012 traffic ticket, per reports from the Denver Post and others.”

Community notes were added to numerous posts spreading the false claims, with pro-Trump accounts among those flagged for disseminating misinformation about the shooting victim.
Fatal Shooting Sparks National Protests
Good was killed when ICE agent Jonathan Ross fired three shots into her SUV during an immigration enforcement operation in a Minneapolis neighborhood. Federal officials and President Donald Trump defended the shooting, claiming Good weaponized her vehicle against law enforcement and the agent acted in self-defense.
However, video evidence and eyewitness accounts have contradicted the federal government’s narrative, according to journalists and local officials who reviewed footage of the incident. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey noted the video did not support Department of Homeland Security claims that Good attempted to run over the agent.
The shooting marked Minneapolis’ first recorded homicide of 2026, according to the city’s crime dashboard, which showed no homicides from January 1 through January 6.
Family Describes Devoted Mother and Poet
Good’s family and friends have described her as a devoted parent, accomplished writer and compassionate community member—characterizations that stand in stark contrast to the fabricated criminal profile spread online.
Good was a poet and writer who lived in Minneapolis with her wife and six-year-old child. She had graduated with an English degree from Old Dominion University and had two children from a previous marriage. Her second husband died in 2023 at age 36, leaving her a widow before she remarried.
According to neighbors, Good had previously lived in Kansas City, Missouri, before relocating to Canada with her family following Trump’s 2024 election victory. She later moved to Minneapolis.
Additional Misinformation Campaigns
The false arrest records represent just one element of a broader misinformation campaign targeting Good following her death. Social media users also circulated incorrect photos claiming to show her, when images actually depicted another woman from Good’s university.
PolitiFact debunked one widely shared photo of a short-haired woman in a green sweater, confirming the image showed a different person pictured on Old Dominion University’s English department Facebook page.
Additionally, X users employed Grok’s AI image generation capabilities to create fake unmasked photos purporting to show ICE agent Jonathan Ross, who wore a mask during the shooting. Snopes verified these AI-generated images were fabricated.
Political Reactions and Investigations
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz proclaimed January 9 “Renee Good Day” and called the shooting “the consequences of governance designed to generate fear, headlines and conflict.” He ordered the state’s National Guard to adopt a preparedness posture.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer have demanded criminal investigations. The FBI assumed control of the investigation, revoking access from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension in a move Democratic National Committee chair Ken Martin characterized as a cover-up.
Thousands have protested in Minneapolis, Chicago, New York City, Washington D.C., and other cities nationwide. The shooting occurred during an ICE enforcement surge in the Twin Cities area that continued into neighboring Richfield through January 8.
Does the spread of fabricated criminal records against shooting victims represent a coordinated effort to discredit those killed in controversial law enforcement encounters?
