WASHINGTON, DC (TDR) — Now-former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene called out President Donald Trump during her farewell interview with CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins Monday night, taking credit for helping get him elected while decrying his rants accusing her of being a “traitor” for supporting release of the Epstein files.

Long-Time Ally Breaks With President

Greene has long been an outspoken ally and booster of Trump, but the last year saw her take her own party to task on healthcare while defying Trump with vocal support for releasing Epstein documents. The rift led her to announce retirement from Congress effective January 5.

On Monday night’s edition of The Source with Kaitlan Collins, Greene gave her last interview as a member of Congress, during which she called Trump out again while also slamming Democrats.

“I unapologetically support America First. And as an American, it’s OK to disagree with the President that I helped get elected, and it’s OK to disagree with other Americans. But what’s not OK is for our government to put their full focus on foreign countries.”

The Georgia Republican told Collins she was “very thankful that I get to spend more time with my family and friends, and hold the very proud title of U.S. citizen.”

Defends Epstein Survivors Against Trump

Collins asked Greene about Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez‘s claim that the Venezuela military action was designed to distract from Epstein files and skyrocketing healthcare costs. Greene disagreed with that assessment but stood firm on her Epstein position.

“I wouldn’t say that it’s meant to be a distraction. I think those are all separate issues. So no, I don’t necessarily agree with what she said.”

The former congresswoman explained why she signed the discharge petition despite Trump’s fury.

“I signed my name on the discharge petition, to release the Epstein files, because I fully stand with women who were raped as teenagers. And releasing those files was a campaign promise. That was something that MAGA voted for, and the American people across political spectrums believe in and overwhelmingly demanded. So, I’ll never apologize for that, even though the President called me a traitor for standing with those victims.”

Trump withdrew his support for Greene in November, calling her a “traitor” and “Lunatic” on Truth Social after she became one of only four Republicans to sign the discharge petition forcing a vote on the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Greene previously told The New York Times that Trump said his “friends will get hurt” by exposing abusers connected to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Slams Republicans On Healthcare Failure

Greene pivoted to criticizing her own party’s handling of healthcare, an issue that contributed significantly to her break with Republican leadership.

“I think that health care is a separate issue, and it’s extremely important. The Democrats created Obamacare, and they passed the ACA tax credits. I didn’t vote for those. And that has driven the costs of health care and health insurance to be unaffordable for many Americans.”

The former congresswoman directed particularly sharp criticism at House Speaker Mike Johnson, who repeatedly promised a Republican healthcare alternative.

“And it is a serious issue. And that’s why I have pushed hard on my own party and the Speaker of the House, because Republicans have never — had never presented an alternative plan, even though Mike Johnson said over and over again that he would have one, on day one. And I think that’s a complete failure to the American people. It’s a serious issue, and Republicans can’t dismiss it.”

Greene had previously torn into Johnson on social media, demanding answers during GOP conference calls about Republican healthcare plans. During one October call, she reportedly yelled at the speaker, stating “Apparently I have to go into a SCIF to find out the Republican healthcare plan!!!” according to reports at the time.

Breaks With Trump On Venezuela

On the issue of Venezuela, Greene urged Americans to push back against Trump’s military intervention and nation-building plans following the capture of Nicolás Maduro.

“But another serious issue is regime change and foreign wars, and I really hope to see that the American people push back and say, Let’s focus on the United States of America, Mr. President, because that’s what the American people deserve.”

Greene’s opposition to regime change operations marks a significant break from Trump, who announced Saturday that the U.S. would “run” Venezuela temporarily while American oil companies rebuild the country’s petroleum infrastructure.

The former congresswoman’s farewell interview underscored her evolution from Trump’s most vocal MAGA ally to an independent voice willing to challenge both the president and her own party’s leadership when she believed they strayed from campaign promises or constituent interests.

Death Threats Following Trump Attacks

Greene revealed during the CNN interview that she received another death threat on her final day in office, requiring consultation with Capitol Police. She previously told PBS that her office reported 773 death threats since entering Congress, with Trump’s “traitor” comments resulting in pipe bomb threats on her house and construction company, plus multiple threats against her son.

“President Trump’s unwarranted and vicious attacks against me were a dog whistle to dangerous radicals,” Greene said in November. When Trump called a member of Congress “traitor,” she argued, “he is signaling what must be done to a traitor.”

The White House dismissed Greene’s departure, with spokesperson Davis Ingle telling The New York Times: “Congresswoman Greene is quitting on her constituents in the middle of her term and abandoning the consequential fight we’re in. We don’t have time for her petty bitterness.”

Will other Republicans follow Greene’s example in challenging Trump on foreign interventions and demanding actual healthcare solutions, or will fear of “traitor” accusations keep them silent?
